On the ancient pilgrim’s route to Canterbury, Shottenden village is the ideal base for getting to experience Kent’s rural life in all its beauty throughout the year. Fantastic for walkers, cyclists or country pub-seekers, it is a peaceful spot that exudes quiet charm, yet within easy reach of the walled city of Canterbury and the market town of Faversham. Anyone seeking a good walk to clear out the cobwebs can set out from Shottenden and very quickly find that it sits within easy reach of some of Kent’s most interesting places. Chilham, with its preserved 17th Century square is recognisable from its screen grabbing starring role in historic dramas such as ‘Emma’ or one of the ‘Poirot’ dramas, with its train station a mere 5 minutes' drive from The Manor Barn. And just outside Chilham is one of Kent’s latest vineyards to open its uber-modern, stylish tasting doors: Domaine Evermond. Needless to say, a lovely nearby rural pub should also do the trick. Beyond Canterbury’s charms, the Kent coast is just under half an hour away, with Whitstable's famed oysters ready to try and its colourful beach huts offering a superb backdrop to a relaxing day by the sea.
