We’re a family-run business and love welcoming guests to our cottages here at Barnacre. Hosting gives us the chance to share our beautiful corner of the Wirral with people looking for a relaxing break, whether that’s enjoying country walks, family time by the pool, or exploring the coast. We enjoy making sure guests feel at home, with little touches that make holidays stress-free and memorable. When we’re not looking after the cottages, you’ll usually find us with our children & our German Shepherd puppy, Bonnie, or enjoying the countryside ourselves. Our goal is for you to arrive, switch off, and feel completely at ease from the moment you step inside.

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Saughall Massie on the Wirral Peninsula, The Shippon Barn is a beautifully restored 270-year-old cottage that once served as a humble cattle barn. Today, it’s a warm, characterful retreat, full of rustic charm, thoughtful touches and a few hidden surprises that nod to its past - from glazed owl flight holes to quirky archer’s windows in the bedrooms. Inside the Shippon Barn, exposed timbers, soft oak floors and a crackling wood-burning stove invite you to settle in and unwind. Downstairs, you’ll find a stylish and well-equipped kitchen (with the all-important double Ninja air fryer!), a spacious living area filled with cosy seating, a Smart TV and blankets for slow evenings by the fire. A handy downstairs loo completes the ground floor. Upstairs, three bedrooms await. The light-filled master bedroom features a double bed, walk-in wardrobe and en-suite shower. A second bedroom boasts a charming antique double bed, while the third has a fun double-and-bunk combination, perfect for families. The main bathroom has both a bath and over-bath shower - ideal for unwinding after a day at the beach or in the pool. Step outside and you’ll find your own private garden sanctuary: a bubbling hot tub, comfy seating, a charcoal BBQ, and plenty of room for little ones (and dogs!) to play. As always at Barnacre, families are at the heart of everything we do. From plastic cutlery and highchairs to baby baths, cots, fireguards and pool toys - we’ve tried to think of everything so you don’t have to. The onsite children’s play area is just a few steps away, and your stay includes access to our beautiful fishing lake and indoor heated swimming pool (shared between the three cottages, but you’ll enjoy exclusive private access in pre-booked slots (2 hours/day, between 8am–6pm). The pool is fully heated and comes with towels, changing room, a toilet, an indoor hot tub and plenty of pool toys for kids (and grown-ups too!).

Both the Old Mill Barn and The Shippon Barn are in the lovely old village of Saughall Massie with a village pub and neighbours. We must insist on no parties or outside noise or use of hot tubs after 11pm. Anyone causing disturbance to neighbours will be asked to leave immediately.
