Surrounded by rolling hills, the rural village of Harpley has a good community feel with a village hall, primary school, church and The Rose & Crown pub. There are neolithic barrows on the road to Anmer, and Peddars Way path goes along the western boundary, an ancient trade route used by the Romans but dating back to neolithic times. You can literally walk for miles from Harpley, barely crossing a road or passing other traffic. It’s a very short drive (or bikeable on quiet lanes) to Houghton Hall & Gardens, and a little further to HM The King’s Sandringham Estate, both well worth a visit while you are in the area. The neighbouring village of Great Massingham is one of the loveliest around, with large greens and duck ponds, a fine village shop, café and the hugely popular Dabbling Duck pub. Just to the east you have East Rudham and The Crown Inn, another award-winning pub. Harpley is less than half an hour to the coast, where you will find RSPB Snettisham, the vast sandy beach at Brancaster, upmarket Burnham Market village and all the attractions and fine eateries around. You’re also central to the maritime town of Kings Lynn and the lively town of Fakenham for any amenities and services you could need.
