We are happy to communicate with all guests as much as necessary, but will otherwise leave you to enjoy your stay. When the booking is confirmed you will receive instructions via email with all the necessary information to check in at your leisure. Check in is from 4pm, unless one of our early check in options has been purchased. Check out is strictly 10am, unless one of our late check out options has been purchased. Check in is via a secure key box for which you will be provided the key box code 7 days prior to arrival. Regular visitors to Elie will recognise this completely renovated cottage as the former Appletons hardware shop – now transformed into The Winkle, a stylish single-level coastal hideaway in the very heart of the High Street. With the Elie Deli, local shops, cafés, bus stop (for exploring the East Neuk and St Andrews) and the long sandy beach all within a 1–2 minute walk, it’s a brilliantly located base for families, couples and golfers who like to have everything on the doorstep. The interior has been thoughtfully refurbished for modern living, with Wi-Fi, a private rear patio and pet-friendly stays welcome (terms apply). All on the ground floor, it’s particularly suitable for guests with limited mobility. A bright L-shaped reception hall with hardwood flooring leads into the lounge, where a rear-facing window with original shutters overlooks the patio. This inviting space has leather sofas, a breakfast/dining table for four and a wall-mounted Smart TV – ideal for relaxed evenings after the beach or links. The contemporary kitchen feels sleek and practical, with grey gloss cabinets, co-ordinating worktops and floating shelves, plus a gas hob, electric oven, SMEG fridge-freezer, integrated washing machine, dishwasher and direct access to both the shower room and the garden. Sleeping is cleverly arranged. Bedroom 1 at the rear has an inbuilt raised double bed (accessed by three steps) with storage underneath and a window to the patio, creating a cosy, cabin-like retreat. Bedroom 2 at the front is a generous bunk room with two pairs of bunks, each with a small double (4') on the bottom and one with a single above. The Winkle is designed to sleep four comfortably, with the upper singles perfect for luggage – though one top bunk can be used for a child, allowing up to five guests in total.

Elie and Earlsferry are two of the most picturesque towns in the East Neuk with a beautiful long sandy beach and a pretty little harbour. The golf links are the feature that joins the beautiful villages of Earlsferry and Elie and the local population are justifiably proud of their ancient course. The course has evolved over the centuries from a simple links golfing tract in the 1500s to the fine 18 hole course it is today. Elie town centre has lots of little shops ranging from the Elie Deli, Carol's Ice Cream Shop and the pharmacy, all the way to The Ship by the Harbour with its beach cricket and good food. Everything in Elie and Earlsferry is within walking distance, be it the Elie Ness Lighthouse, the beaches, the Links golf course and many more facilities. The bus routes are all frequent and easy to use. Taxis are available to the surrounding towns and St Andrews. 15 mins walk to Elie town centre, 5 mins walk to Elie Golf Course and less than 1 mins walk to the long, sandy Elie & Earlsferry Beach. Supermarket available in Anstruther, but lots of small local shops in Elie will provide most of what you will need.
