The picturesque village of Calbourne takes its name from the stream that passes through the village - the Caul Bourne. Arguably one of the prettiest west Wight villages, it is not surprising that much of Calbourne is a designated conservation area. The chocolate-box houses that flank Winkle Street (aka Barrington Row) date from the 18th-century and overlook the village namesake. There are numerous local footpaths and bridleways, stretching out over miles of Downland and countryside. Freshwater Bay, famous for crystal clear water and striking coastal views from the cliff tops, along with the iconic Needles are to the West. Renowned for having a warm, sunny climate the island has 57 miles of coastline containing some of the best beaches in the UK.
