Our favourite walk from the Westgate is to cross the road in front of The Westgate and walk though the gates of Torre Abbey. Walk past his magnificent building and the Spanish Barn and you will see the Torbay laid out before you with magnificent views over to Brixham. Keep walking passed the International Riviera conference and leisure centre into Torre Abbey park with its magnificent formal tropical gardens, café and sports like pitch and putt, bowls and crazy golf. Cross the sea road at the bottom and walk along the firm sand of the beach - having a craft paddle. Restaurants and bars start to appear as does the marina as you wonder who owns such splendid boats. The palm tress and flowers are breath-taking as you approach the pavilion and the harbour. Stop for lunch on the harbour side and people watch. Then cross over and walk through the shopping streets back to The Westgate and have a drink in the bar.

The Westgate has a central location but is in a quieter tree-lined road in a conservation area.The Westgate is one of the closet guest houses to Torquay train station and there’s a bus stop right outside that gets you to the harbour, shops and the attractions of Torbay. A ten minute stroll gets you to the sea front and beach or the main shopping area. Another 5-10 minutes gets you to the Princess Theatre, marina, the bustling picturesque harbour area with fabulous places to eat and evenings out.
