It is a perfect base to explore North Mayo Wild Atlantic Way, the Ceide Coast and the historical archaeology of this area including Killala's ancient Round Tower, Killala Cathedral and close to three local abbeys: Rathfran, Moyne and Rosserk. Local beaches and waterways offer swimming, sailing, kayaking, 'paddle and peddle' and surfing. There are mountain and forest walks and bikes for hire - for cycling on the nearby Greenway - guided foraging walks and the unmissable Victorian sea-weed baths at Enniscrone. The River Moy in Ballina offers salmon fishing on the premier salmon fishing river in Ireland. In Killala Harbour local fishing boats provide superb sea angling. Killala has great pubs, cafes and an excellent restaurant. In Ballina there is a great range of restaurants: Belleek Castle, Ice House Spa & Hotel, 3 arts centres& theatre for visual arts and music. Best of all, savour the warm welcome in the local pubs, with great food, especially sea food, and regular live music.
