My name is Lucy and I am delighted to welcome you into our home. I am an avid hiker, cycling, sea swimmer and general outdoor enthusiast. When I am not hosting guests at The Old Monastery, I am training to be a furniture maker. I am very passionate about sustainability and am a Climate Ambassador for An Taisce, an Irish state body concerned with climate education, biodiversity etc. My family are from the local area of Cahersiveen, this house has been in my family for nearly 25 years and we love it dearly. This house is very special to us and is filled with items of sentimental value that we have collected over the years, please treat it as you would your own home.

The Old Monastery is a truly unique place. Here we welcome you into our home which we love and cherish. Set in beautiful gardens hidden behind a high stone wall in the centre of the town, with high ceilings, eclectic interior decor and the unusual layout built for the Christian Brothers, this is no ordinary experience. We are very passionate about a new form of accommodation in Ireland, one where you are welcomed into a family home by locals who will give you all the wonderful insiders tips about the area, one where you can learn all about the local culture, history and people and therefore truly experience the area. We believe that this is what travelling is all about. We accept that our house is different to your average guesthouse, we do not serve a typical fry or cheap cereal for breakfast instead a delicious spread of homemade bread, overnight oats with our own compote, etc we don't even have locks on the bedroom doors (they are old original wooden doors to which we've never had keys). However, we truly believe that we are offering a unique. authentic experience, one which you will find nowhere else! Please read all the information provided before making your booking!

The house is situated in the town of Cahersiveen on the Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring and Wild Atlantic Way. This is an old town full of colourful buildings, cafes, pubs, shops and restaurants. It is situated in a valley between two majestic mountains above the Fertha River. Lovely beaches are a short cycle or drive away as are historic castle ruins, fairy forts, the magnificent Valentia Island and a host of scenic drives, walks and other local towns. There are endless things to do in this area from hiking the way marked trails, fishing in one of Ireland's most famous trout and wild salmon spots, cycling the famous Ring of Kerry, swimming on many of our beautiful and generally deserted beaches, taking dark sky tours by kayak, visiting the Skelligs, sampling the local seafood fare, listening to trad while drinking Guinness in one of our gorgeous local pubs, visiting our pre-Christian stone forts etc etc. The possibilities are endless and I would be delighted to assist you in planning your trip.
