These spaces were not originally built as homes, but were primarily intended as cellars, storage areas, and utility rooms. Thanks to the naturally cool and constant temperature of the stone, they were ideal for storing wine, oil, food, and agricultural tools. Over time, especially between the 19th and 20th centuries, many of these spaces were adapted for residential use to meet the needs of the population. The houses still retain some of their original characteristics: small rooms; low ceilings in several rooms; limestone walls; simple spaces, often on a single level or across several small connecting rooms. For this reason, they do not offer large living spaces, but tell a story of simplicity, adaptation, and intelligent use of available resources. Their architecture reflects a lifestyle in which every square meter was exploited to the fullest, and the needs were very different from those of today.
