The food, both dinner and breakfast, were my favorite meals my whole trip! The food was enough to bring us to bliss but the onsen was the cherry on top.

The food is like heaven. We are fortunate to have tried all sorts of delicacies from all over the world, but what came out of Chef Saito’s mind and craft was a real standout!

Company info

We are a small, family-style inn operator based in the Sengokuhara area of Hakone, running our properties under the Hisanoha name. Our philosophy is simple: to create a place where guests can truly step away from the pace of daily life and experience the quiet, restorative atmosphere that Hakone's nature makes possible. Unlike large resort hotels, we pride ourselves on personal, genuine hospitality. Our small team is always on hand — to carry your luggage, share local recommendations, or simply offer a warm welcome at the end of a long journey. We believe that the best memories of a ryokan stay come not from grand gestures, but from small, thoughtful moments of care. We look forward to welcoming you to Sengokuhara Hisanoha, and to making your time in Hakone something you will want to return to.

Property info

Nestled in Sengokuhara — Hakone's beloved highland resort area — Sengokuhara Hisanoha is a quiet, intimate hot spring inn with just 9 rooms, surrounded by the sweeping pampas grass meadows and forested hills that give this area its distinctive character. Our greatest pride is the milky-white sulfur hot spring, with water drawn directly from the Owakudani volcanic source and flowing freely into the communal bath. The soft, mineral-rich waters carry the gentle scent of sulfur as they warm the body from within — a rare nigori-yu (cloudy hot spring) experience that even many Hakone inns cannot offer. Guest rooms are designed in a Japanese modern style — a thoughtful blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary comfort. Clean lines, natural materials, and carefully chosen furnishings create a calm, welcoming space where the beauty of Sengokuhara's landscape quietly makes itself felt through every season. With only 9 rooms, every guest receives the personal, attentive hospitality that only a small inn can offer. We look forward to making your stay genuinely special.

Neighborhood info

Sengokuhara is one of Hakone's most scenic highland areas — an open, tranquil landscape of meadows, forests, and volcanic mountains that feels worlds away from the busy resort towns, yet is perfectly connected to all of Hakone's major attractions. Nature Sengokuhara Pampas Grass Fields — A short walk from the inn. The vast silver-gold meadows are iconic in autumn and peaceful throughout the year. Hakone Wetlands Botanical Garden — A rare marshland ecosystem with over 1,700 plant species, ideal for a quiet morning walk. Owakudani Volcanic Valley — The active volcanic landscape from which our inn's hot spring water flows. Steaming craters, dramatic scenery, and sweeping mountain views. Accessible by ropeway. Art & Culture Pola Museum of Art — Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, and Picasso, housed in a stunning museum set deep within a beech forest. Hakone Open-Air Museum — Over 120 sculptures by Rodin, Moore, and Picasso across a hillside park, with a dedicated Picasso Pavilion and outdoor foot spa. Hakone Glass Forest — Venetian glass art and glassblowing in elegant Italian-style gardens. Especially beautiful on sunny days. History & Scenery Lake Ashi — Hakone's iconic crater lake, with views of Mount Fuji on clear days and scenic boat rides along the historic shoreline. Hakone Checkpoint — A restored Edo-period barrier gate along the old Tokaido Road, bringing 400 years of Japanese history to life.
