We started Temple Hotel Daitaiji in 2019. We are selected one of the best Shukubo in Japan.

Unique history, nature, and the flow of time. Come visit to experience the special charm of Temple Hotel Daitai-ji. It is one of the oldest temples in Wakayama. Founded 1200 years ago, the temple welcomes you with precious Buddhist statues and a giant 400-year-old tree. Daitaiji is located along the Kumano Kodo, a pilgrimage trail recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience the historic trail that has been shaped by the prayers of people since ancient times. You can enjoy various experiences here such as Zen meditation and riverside sauna. Have an authentic Zen meditation and experience its true meaning of calming your mind and gaining awareness here at Daitaiji. In the temple, there are some gardens. You can enjoy morning coffee while feeling the beautiful garden. The temple is far from the other houses. So you can enjoy the beautiful starry sky at night. In the main hall, there are many beautiful Buddhist statues. A Chief Priest will show you and explain about those statues. The cheif monk can speak English fluently. You can ask him many things. Wi-Fi is also available. At night, you can enjoy the sauna(optional 1 group 15,000 yen). Hearing nature sound and feeling natural breeze, it will be good experience. Also, in the bar the cheif monk play some jazz music. You can enjoy good music and some kind of alcohol.

Neighborhood info

Daitaiji is along Kumano Kodo. Please get off the train at Kii Uragami. Then you can come to Daitaiji through Kumano Kodo, Uragami Toge. It takes 1.5 hours from Kii Uragami station to Daitaiji. Along Kumano Kodo there are some charcoal workshop.
