Farm stay - Sanzen
The house is located in Himizo village, 20 mins drive from center of Tokamachi and 7 mins walk from Echigo-Tazawa station on JR Iiyama line.
We refurbished a 180-year-old house while maintaining old pillars and beams as they were. We have a cat in the house. History of the House : The house used to be a hotel during the end of Edo era. Merchants as well as pilgrims of Zenko-Ji temple( in Nagano prefecture )used to come and stay. Once a national road was opened nearby, the house quit the hotel business and turned into a farm.
Owner loves collecting antiques. Sometimes, we use some o these collections for serving dishes to our customers. We serve breakfast at 500 Yen, which includes organic vegetables and Uonuma-Koshihikari rice that grow in our fields.
The road infront of our hotel is called Zenko-ji-Road. There are the Shinano-river and the Kiyotsu-River, coming from a national park Kiyotsu-Kyo, near by the house. It is the best location to enjoy the rivers. There are also several artworks and installations along the rivers so you can enjoy watching the artworks while exploring around the house. The area is also famous for excavation of Jomon artifacts. The local practice of gathering edible plants in different seasons represent a rich Jomon food culture inherited from our ancestors. Finally, if you like Zen-temple, you can also visit three Zen-temples we have around here and try Zazen in early morning to refresh yourself. Satoyama’s rice terrace fields show completely different faces throughout a year. It changes into different colors in different seasons. Spring is tender green, summer is deep green, autumn is golden and winter is white. Hope you would enjoy Satoyama life of Himizo village.
