Saita Aurore Kiatikhema has French and Laotian heritage and has been living in Laos since 2017. She has loved horses since childhood and studied equestrian sport, agronomy, farm management and tourism in France before starting the project. After arriving in Laos, she discovered the small local Hmong horse breeds and realised many were often not properly cared for. Her first horse came unexpectedly when a relative introduced her to a farmer in southern Laos who did not know how to raise a young foal. She chose to take responsibility for it that same day — and that moment became the beginning of Namkhan Horse Stables 🐴💚

🌿🐎 Welcome to Namkhan Horse Stables – a countryside experience stay in Luang Prabang Sabaidee and welcome! We are Saita, Gnern, Chanti, & volunteers and we’re very happy to share our home with you! Namkhan Horse Stables is not a hotel — it’s a peaceful working stable and rescue project, home to our Hmong horses 🐴 By staying with us, you are directly supporting their daily care while enjoying a unique countryside experience. We are located just outside town near Ban Donkeo village, known for its traditional bamboo weaving. You can explore the temples, cafés and night market in the UNESCO old town during the day, then return in the evening to quiet surroundings, open skies and nature. Founded in 2019, the stables became Luang Prabang’s first dedicated horse riding school. With the help of local horsemen and volunteers we provide a safe and friendly place for beginners, experienced riders, and also guests who simply want to meet the horses or relax. You can stay in a traditional yurt, a tree cabin, or a garden glamping tent — all designed to be comfortable while keeping the natural atmosphere. We are always nearby if you need help with transport, recommendations, or planning your stay. Many guests come as visitors and leave as friends, and we hope you will feel at home here too. 🌿 Nature lovers will find plenty to explore around the stables. The surrounding countryside is peaceful and full of small discoveries — local villages, temples, viewpoints and quiet walking paths. A short walk away you can visit Ban Donkeo, a traditional bamboo-weaving village where you can see everyday Lao life and local handicrafts being made 🧺 Nearby is also the well-known Ban Phanom village, famous for its weaving artisans and handmade textiles created on traditional looms. It’s a lovely place to visit and learn more about local culture. Behind our property you can reach the Nam Khan River with a 15-minute walk through the forest. Many guests enjoy going for a swim, especially in the warmer afternoons. We also recommend visiting The NamKhan Resort, located close to us, which offers activities, a farm-to-table restaurant and a beautiful riverside swimming pool. We’re always happy to suggest walks, arrange transport, or help you plan your day so you can make the most of your time here.
