The Niche is a four bedroom villa with a pool, located a 5 minute drive away from the beach in the seaside resort of Hikkaduwa, which has been famous for its scenic coral gardens. The Niche, which is one of the most scenic areas in the Southern region, borders the breathtaking Hikkaduwa Lake, and contains an extent in excess of 26 Acres (10.5 Hectares). The Niche is currently a fully functional Cinnamon Plantation, where more than 5 tons of Cinnamon is being peeled/processed every year. It has its own Cinnamon Peeling Centre, where Cinnamon is peeled in accordance with centuries old techniques. The Niche also has a large amount of Coconut Palms and fruit trees, including Cashew, Mangoes, Bananas etc. One of the boundaries of land entirely borders the Hikkaduwa Lake, which is more than 700 to 800 meters in length. The Niche has several rocks abutting the lake, which are scenic locations with unmatched views.

The Hikkaduwa beach is a five minute drive away from the Niche. Hikkaduwa is located 98 kms from Colombo and 4 kms away from the historical city of Galle. It was the first (1960’s) of Sri Lanka’s beautiful beaches to be discovered by tourists. Snorkelling and scuba diving in the clear waters are a major past-time along this stretch and is the most environmentally friendly way to see the colourful fish that dart around. The coral sanctuary found along the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water enclosed by a reef, decorated with layers of multi coloured corals, and is home to countless numbers of vibrantly coloured fish. Off the beach there is a collection of small islets surrounded by beautiful coral formations. Many species of fish and large turtles are found here. There are more than four different shipwrecks for diving enthusiasts to explore along with dive shops offering PADI courses and equipment. Within a short distance southward, from the center of the reef, it diminishes and starts a wider sandy bottomed beach with good waves ideal for board surfing and body surfing. The city of Hikkaduwa being an ideal tourist spot, has solid infrastructure, with cafes, coffee shops, night-clubs and more. Other attractions in close proximity are the historical city of Galle, where you find an ancient Dutch Fort and buildings, which are well preserved. Also, other renowned seaside resorts such as Bentota, Beruwala, Unawatuna, Weligama and Mirissa are located within 30 to 45 minutes’ drive away. Of all the bigger Sri Lankan beach resorts, Mirissa is one not to be missed. In general, this is a place for sitting and being rather than doing, but if you need a shot of adrenaline then Mirissa is the best base for a waterborne safari in search of dolphins and blue whales, the largest living creatures on earth.
