Gouwzee BV was founded in 2025, with the primary purpose of renting out our apartment. In addition to the apartment, we also own a small open launch boat (6 meters) that is available for rent.

A spacious luxury loft in the historic heart of Monnickendam. Sleep at the foot of the 'Speeltoren', the world’s oldest playable carillon! Completed in early 2026 and fully equipped with every modern comfort. Enjoy a 51 m² apartment with a private entrance. The sleeping area features a very comfortable double box-spring bed, blackout curtains, a double washbasin with storage, a separate toilet, a spacious rain shower, and drawer wardrobe. Enjoy our lovely sunny rooftop terrace with lots of privacy. The living area includes a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge/freezer, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, induction cooktop, combi microwave oven, and dishwasher. The kitchen is fully equipped for four guests. Tired of walking all day? Use the beamer to watch a movie in your own private cinema! The entire apartment is climate-controlled by a heat pump that provides both heating and cooling. From the four-person dining area, you have a direct view of the 'Speeltoren' and local cafés and restaurants. From the sofa, you overlook 'Noordeinde' and the Saturday market. A ladder leads to the mezzanine with two single beds. This area is not suitable for young children and is used at your own risk. When the apartment is booked for two guests, the ladder will be removed so it does not obstruct the walking area. The street and surrounding corners offer various cafés and restaurants, and from the old inner harbor you can enjoy views over the 'Gouwzee'. Two bus stops are a five-minute walk away, with connections to Amsterdam, Volendam, and Marken. On Saturdays, the local market takes place across the street, and if you’re lucky, the 'Speeltoren' is played by the carillonist around 11:00 a.m. Explore the area on foot, by public transport (which runs all night from Amsterdam), rent an e-bike or e-chopper at a discount, or make a timely request for our boat rental. There’s no better way to discover 'Waterland' than from the water itself!

Monnickendam is a peaceful town right near Amsterdam. Stroll through the historic center and admire the beautiful old façades and decorative gable stones. Guided city walks are regularly organized here, often starting at the foot of the 'Speeltoren'. A walk along the old city fortress and through the harbor is also highly recommended. A visit to the Big Church at the town entrance, the 'Speeltoren Museum' at the opposite of the accomodation, or one of the cafés and restaurants in the old inner harbor should definitely not be missed. Feeling like getting some fresh air or taking a swim in the summer? Just a 10-minute walk away you’ll find the 'Hemmeland' recreational area. Here you can enjoy lovely walks with views over the 'Gouwzee', looking out toward Marken and Volendam. In good weather, there are several small beaches as well as various restaurants available. Monnickendam is also a great destination for hikers. Opposite the Big Church at the towns entrance, you’ll find the starting point of several longer walking routes. Take a walk around all of Monnickendam (6 km), walk to Marken (8.5 km one way, with a bus back is possible), follow the “Troeter Route” through 'Hemmeland' (8.5 km), or try the 'Paling Route' via Katwoude and Volendam (15 km). Monnickendam is also highly recommended for families with children. The 'Speeltoren' Museum is interactive and fun for kids, there’s a large playground along the old fortress (open from March through October), and plenty of space to run around or swim in summer at one of the 'Hemmeland' beaches. Visit the cheese farm of Henry Willig in Katwoude, dress up in traditional costume for a photo in Volendam, take the ferry to Marken, or enjoy a relaxed meal at one of the many child-friendly restaurants just around the corner.
