A common kitchen with a fridge, microwave, stove, oven, dish washer is available at any time for all the guests, also a very dining room with a fire place can be used any time. Free wifi is available in all guest rooms and in all common areas. We would like to mention that our rooms do not have TV's, but we do have a big TV room for our guests. The Shady Rest offers a continental breakfast with a fruit salad, cereals, fried or scrambled eggs. The Shady Rest Bed & Breakfast is a unique hundred-year-old grand historic doctor's residence situated on Takaka’s main street, set back from the road amongst tall and beautiful native New Zealand trees.

The Shady Rest Bed & Breakfast features three Double En-Suite rooms and two Double Rooms – each with a private bathroom - as well as a common TV lounge Our guests can use a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, microwave, gas stove and oven and dishwasher) any time they want. We provide the following amenities for our guests: free WIFI in all our guest rooms , a shared lounge and dining room with a fire place , ample off-street parking, riverside picnic area, and a BBQ, We offer a continental breakfast with eggs cooked to suit your tastes, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, a selection of cereals, toast and condiments.

Takaka township is the main business, service and shopping centre for Golden Bay and was founded in 1854. A stroll down the main street will reveal the importance of the very active and well recognised arts and crafts community. There is a wide range of accommodation, a good selection of restaurants and cafés, as well as a library and playground.
