The heart of the city is the Main Square - the largest city square in medieval Europe, entered on the first UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978. For 600 years, the bugle call has been played from the tower of St. Mary's Basilica every hour to all corners of the world. In the center there is the Cloth Hall - a medieval market hall. In turn, the Wawel Hill was the residence of Polish rulers and a religious center. Currently, the Wawel Royal Castle serves as a museum. You can see monuments of Renaissance art here; the arcaded courtyard is a delight - a pearl of sixteenth-century architecture.
