Property info

Centenary building, classified as a property of public interest, inserted in the historic center of O​​porto, with a great view over the Douro River and Oporto, having been renovated in 2018. In the ground floor there is a traditional café where on Wednesdays afternoon you can still listen to "fado" sessions (traditional portuguese music). The buuilding maintains the original structure of walls in stone and wooden braiding. The Bridge D Luis and Ribeira are a 10-minute walk away. The Ribeira area has a wide variety of restaurants and cafes, and most serve "Portuguese tapas" and some of Porto's specialties, such as the typical "Francesinha". The Bridge D Luis connects to Vila Nova de Gaia, the site of the Port Wine Cellars. The riverside area also offers guests the opportunity to visit the Douro River on a Rabelo boat. The "Coliseu" is 500 meters away, Aliados Avenue and the Clérigos Tower are 1 km away. S.Bento Metro Station is a 10-minute walk away.

Neighborhood info

A traditional neighbourhood in Porto’s historic district. The Passeio and the Alameda were commissioned by Francisco Almada e Mendonça, the city’s great urban planner in the 18th century, who expanded the city beyond the Fernandine walls. The Passeio das Fontainhas and its alameda were the first viewpoint built overlooking the city of Porto, also known as the ‘balcony over Porto’ for offering one of the most prized panoramic views of the city. Today it has a very strong connection to the city of Porto, being considered the centre of the Festa do S. João, a popular festival steeped in tradition and celebrated throughout the city, which takes place every year from 23 to 24 June. Opposite the Passeio das Fontainhas lies the Calçada das Carquejeiras, whose 220 metres of steep, uneven cobblestones leading down to the River Douro tell the story of hardy, poor women, known as ‘the carquejeiras’, who, some years ago, climbed and descended it several times a day, carrying 50 kilos of bundles of carqueja on their backs, transporting them from the Douro River quay to the bakeries and stately homes throughout the city of Porto. In recognition of their work, Porto City Council renamed it Calçada das Carquejeiras.
