Sagres sits on a headland at the southwestern tip of mainland Portugal, where the Atlantic meets dramatic cliffs — a quiet surf town with waves for every level, from Tonel and Beliche to Arrifana, with the best conditions typically found in winter. From May to September, the town's seasonal restaurants, bars, and cafés come alive for the summer crowd; outside that window, Sagres settles into a much slower, quieter rhythm. Beaches and the town centre (Praça da República) are each about a 15–20 minute walk from the house. Praia do Tonel and the historic Fortaleza de Sagres are a short drive away, and Cabo de São Vicente — the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe — is about a 10-minute drive, with some of the best sunsets in the country. A car is the most practical way to explore the wider Algarve, though the town centre, beaches, and local bike rentals make day-to-day life easy without one.
