Welcome to Ruby Charm Houses Discover Ruby Charm Houses, a unique stay in the heart of Porto where tradition, history and hospitality come together. Founded in 2015 by a mother-and-son team, the project was created with a clear purpose: to preserve and revitalize a real part of the city — the historic Ilha Cardoso, a cluster of 14 traditional houses. With a careful and respectful approach, the neighbourhood was restored while ensuring that the four resident families could continue to live there, now with improved conditions. The remaining houses were transformed into tourist accommodation, creating a rare balance between visitors and local life. By staying at Ruby Charm Houses, guests experience Porto beyond the usual tourist paths. Located within a traditional “ilha”, the houses are part of a living community where residents and travellers share the same space. This is not a staged environment — it is everyday life, as it has always been. Here, the past is not recreated — it is still lived. We didn’t replace the neighbourhood. We chose to be part of it.
