The country house complex in the windmill yard SALGADINHO with its extension to the the adjacent SÍTIO DAS ROLAS is part of the nature tourism “SELÃO DA EIRA - Turismo Rural no Alentejo”, which applies a modern ecological concept to reconcile "Nature & Comfort”. Located in plain nature between Natural Park and Ecological Reserve and on the highest spot of the area, it offers a true panorama view over the landscape down to the Atlantic Ocean and over the Monchique with sunrise over the hills and sunset over the sea, and a star-twinkling night sky. The accommodations are high-standard holiday homes with swimming pools and modern amenities. One of the two modern clay houses is fully WHEELCHAIR-ADAPTED, and the swimming pool is accessible in wheelchair, too. The tranquility, the natural environment, and the feel-at-home atmosphere and privacy make our small tourism a great place to relax. At the same time, it is a good base for day-excursions and hiking trips.

The owner spent most part of her professional career as consultant in international development cooperation, mainly in Asia and in some African countries, and in-between as manager of a construction enterprise with 80 staff in Portugal. In 2008, the idea was born to convert a private rural property of unique natural atmosphere into a tourism for people who feel that nature is luxury and who look for holiday places where they can slow down and recover from the stress of the modern urban pace of life. Subsequently, “SELÃO DA EIRA - Turismo Rural no Alentejo” was set up based on the principles “Small scale – Ecology - Individuality – Quality”. The windmill SALGADINHO and later the adjacent SÍTIO DAS ROLAS with a pine forest were acquired to secure the economic sustainability of the project. From the very beginning, there has been the particular ambition to create a holiday destination in nature which is accessible also for people with reduced mobility. In the spirit of her previous profession, the owner is dedicated to contribute to tap the potential of the Alentejo coast and Odemira, in particular, to become a prime destination for high-quality nature tourism.

The ROTA VICENTINA (S.Teotónio-Odeceixe) passes just in front, and branches off to SELÃO DA EIRA VELHA, a mile further down in plain National Ecological Reserve. This world apart where the only “noise” are the sounds of nature, is part of our tourism. Genuine forest, garden vegetation and eco-horticulture, the river, a pond, swan lakes and roaming peacocks create a “Nature Paradise” of magic atmosphere that our guests may enjoy whenever they like. SELÃO DA EIRA VELHA puts in touch with nature. You breathe tranquility while strolling in the river valley or climbing old footpaths to join the ROTA VICENTINA, even when taking a swim in the pool surrounded by trees and bypassing peacocks, or when simply relaxing in the glass pavilion, on a terrace by the lakes or the river, or retreat to a romantic hideaways along the lotus pond. A small café has snacks, including vegetarian plates and juices, lunch and dinner are made to order on advance notice. In the THAI-AYURVEDA SALA by the swan lake, my daughter who is a doctor of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, takes care of health-conscious guests. She offers individually adapted therapeutic Thai massage and other natural treatments.
