⚓ Viana Life — Sleeping with the sea in your heart
Imagine waking up to the gentle sound of water, opening the door and seeing the river, the sea and the beauty of Viana do Castelo right before your eyes.
At Viana Life, you won’t just be sleeping on a sailing boat. You’ll be enjoying a unique, peaceful and unforgettable experience in the heart of one of the most beautiful towns in northern Portugal.
Moored in Viana do Castelo’s marina, the sailing boat offers you the chance to spend a night on board, soak up the nautical atmosphere and discover a different way to unwind.
During the day, you can stroll through the streets of Viana, learn about its history, sample the local cuisine or simply let yourself be swept away by the scenery. At the end of the day, you return to the sailing boat, where the pace slows down and the sea becomes part of your evening.
Here, luxury lies in the simple things:
I am, first and foremost, a man of the sea.
Sailing, the ocean and diving are not just part of my life — they are my way of being in the world. It was by the water that I learnt to listen to the silence of the waves, to respect the invisible power of the currents, and to understand that one does not simply visit the sea: the sea lives within us.
In the 1990s, I left Viana do Castelo in search of new opportunities in the capital. I set off with dreams and a desire to grow, like so many others. Life took me far away, opened doors for me, and gave me experiences and horizons I could never have imagined.
But there are places that cannot be left behind.
Viana has never left me.
It has remained within me like a constant tide — in my childhood memories, in the voices of the people, in the traditions that stand the test of time, in the salty scent of the Atlantic, and in that deep connection that only those born by the ocean can truly understand.
Viana is not just the town I came from.
It is the root that anchors me.
Today, through my sailing boat, I seek to give back a little of that connection to the sea and to the town that shaped me. Every time I set sail is a homecoming. Every voyage is a way of rediscovering Viana on the horizon.
I want those who come aboard to feel what I feel: the peace of the open sea, the freedom of sailing with the wind, and the unique beauty of a town where the ocean isn’t just a backdrop — it’s our identity.
Because we may set sail from Viana…
but Viana never leaves us.

Viana do Castelo — where the sea is part of life
Viana do Castelo is a city to be experienced with all five senses.
It is the green of the mountains, the blue of the Atlantic, the glistening waters of the River Lima and the imposing presence of Santa Luzia, high above, watching over the city and the sea.
But Viana is also experienced around the table.
Its cuisine is an essential part of its identity: fresh fish, seafood, octopus rice, cod, traditional dishes and the flavours of the Minho region make the city a place where eating is also a way of discovering its history.
And then there’s the sea.
Viana is a natural destination for those who enjoy sailing, surfing, bodyboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, diving and other water sports. The Atlantic offers freedom, adventure and that unique feeling of being at one with nature.
For me, it’s impossible to talk about Viana without mentioning Santa Luzia.
From the top of the hill, the view opens out over the town, the River Lima and the ocean. It’s one of those places where you can truly grasp Viana’s full scope — a town nestled between the river, the mountains and the sea.
And perhaps it is precisely this blend that makes Viana so special.
A town steeped in tradition, yet with a youthful spirit.
A town of people with ties to the sea, yet with their eyes set on the world.
A town to discover, savour and experience.
And for those arriving on board the Viana Life, there’s yet another way to get to know Viana:
from the water.
Because when you see Viana from the sea, you realise that this town was truly born facing the ocean.
