Sazani Beach Lodge and Tidal Lounge Off the beaten track, Sazani is a six-room lodge above a secluded cove on the quiet, east-facing side of the Nungwi peninsula — 15 minutes from Nungwi village and Kendwa, with an exclusive beach and lagoon directly below. Once our family's beach house, it has welcomed travelers since 1996 and still runs like a home rather than a hotel. All rooms have private bathrooms, traditional four-poster beds, fans, and furniture made from reclaimed dhow wood, set in a tropical garden with paths down to the beach. Tidal Lounge — our bar and dining space overlooking the ocean — serves breakfast, set-menu dinners, and drinks, with free WiFi for guests. Our food is sourced locally and responsibly, and our meals combine Zanzibar spice island cuisine with inspiration from our family's travels. We have solar back-up power and are sustainably run: no pool (fresh water is scarce on the island — the ocean, beach, and low-tide sandbanks are steps away), no AC (rooms are built to catch the sea breeze), drinking water filtered and served in glass, minimal plastic. Guests choose Sazani for the view, the quiet, and the small team who look after them — the resort strip is nearby when you want it.
