The site is located in a friendly neighborhood community with organic farming and individual building sites, that have even been mentioned on a youtube chanel for unique lifestyles. The unpaved pathways are wonderful for morning or evening strolls around the block and due to no streetlights the night sky and milky way are clearly visible on cloudless nights. Sun and moonrises can be watched from recliners next to your tent. Twice a week fresh breads and baked goods are being prepared for sales in the small town of Naalehu. You are welcome to buy the breads straight out of the oven. If an additional futon is needed in the tent a small surcharge will be due upon arrival.
Having lived in this neighborhood since 2004 we look forward to sharing the beauty of this area. If you have any questions about the southern part of the island during your stay, we are more than happy to answer them.
Ka'u is the largest district of the Hawaiian Island and has the last undeveloped coastline in the Hawaiian Islands. This makes the area quite special and also very unique. The Ka Lae area is where the first Polynesians came on land and settled. Many people of Ka'u are fishermen, hunters and farmers and live off the land much more than in most other places. To be able to explore the area best, it is recommended to rent a Jeep or SUV since not all roads are paved. This way you will have access to spots that are unknown to other visitors.
