"Loved the small town feel with plenty to do. Highly recommend over the over touristy Kona side. Don't let the rain fool you- we had a great time with sunny skies each day. Close to beautiful Lava beaches, turtles galore and the locals were all friendly ."

"The state park beaches with access to facilities was very nice. I would have spent more time shopping downtown if the parking lots were more affordable. Free street parking was sparce downtown. Enjoyed the excellent food and service at Magics Beach Grill, Huggo's On the Rocks (lunch), Papa Kona's Restaurant/Bar (for breakfast) and Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill. Next time we would drive farther up north to more beaches with more sand/waves and less rock. I would recommend the Atlantis Submarine Tour Kona as an excellent activity."

"We loved our stay. The ocean and coastal line is magnificent. Lots of marine life and tide pools to explore. Sea Mountain condo hotel was great. It was fully equipped with everything we needed to live there. There are grocery stores in Pahala and Na'alehu -- so be prepared to stock up and/or do the drive."

One of 186 reviews:
"We liked the convenience of shopping, places to eat, and gas station. Our favorite restaurant was the Lava Lava Club, sitting right on the beach, with the live music and the hula dancer with the kind eyes! There are no reservations, so get there at 5 PM to get a table that night. Driving around the complex was easy, and parking was adequate. The gas station has limited hours, though, so pay attention if you are gassing up early or late! The grocery store has groceries at a very high price. I would get groceries in Kailua instead next time. There's a Safeway there. As far as beaches, Hapuna and Mauna Kea were our favorite easily accessible beaches. Swimming and snorkeling are great at both. Mauna Kea has only 40 parking spots, so get there early to get one and get on that beach! We also went to Makolowena beach, that was a favorite, but the drive in required our 4WD to get to the parking spot, and a long walk. We enjoyed that, but not everyone would. Obviously we drove farther for the Manta Ray snorkel, and the Keylakekua snorkeling trips. Those are both highly recommended!"

Quiet and peaceful, great view from deck, and good place to access things we wanted to see in that part of the Big Island! The big fan was nice to pull out of the closet and push air through from front screen door to upstairs area. The Washer/dryer great to have available even though we didn't need to use it!

We had the best time during our stay in Kona at Pacific19. The room was great and we were upgraded to sea view because of our honeymoon. And we got some welcome gifts because of that! the rooms are very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. we had a great time and loved the free coffee in the mornings. Also location is great, you can just walk anywhere in Kona.

We had a quiet room, which was amazing for our 2 night stay. The staff were amazing and always attentive to our needs. For a family of 3, with suitcases, the room was a little small. However, it was super clean, comfortable, and great bathroom amenities. I would stay again for sure.

I have been to Hilo several times.

I have been to Hilo several times. I love the charm of this old village. We went to the market on Wednesday afternoon and after a little poking around, we had a Thai lunch from a truck which was as good as I have had in Thailand. There were two local musicians who played their favorite songs with a Hawaiian flare. I missed the used book store this time, but made a quick stop at the Discovery Center. Hilo is one of my favorite towns in Hawaii mostly because it isn’t showy and the people are down to earth.

Wonderful location, just outside the Volcanoes National Park yet very private and accessible to everything around. The property was equipped with everything you need, and it showed that the owner had put alot of thought into creating this beautiful, restful, and comfortable place to stay. Wish there were more stay options as this property...may I suggest, bookings.com look closely at this place to use it as a model property to expand in the future. Thank you, Stacey!

Waikoloa isn't cheap but it's a vacation and it is going to cost you a little extra. The location is great, only 25min from the airport. There are some good restauarants all within 5~10min away. A couple really nice beaches within 5~10min away. Reservations through Booking.com is the best way to go, you get a higher rated location for less than resort prices. We've stayed at both Hotels and Condos in the area at least 6 or 7 times, a Condo through Booking.com is the best way to go, especially if you have a family.

Keaau is an authentic neighborhood on Hawai'i Island vs. a manicured resort. You will get a feel for what it is like to live in Hawai'i, amid the beautiful nature. It is not super close to swimmable beaches, however there is a waterfront park in the neighborhood where you can see the surf pounding against the lava rocks. There is also a local farmer's market nearby. Hilo town is about 11 miles away and has good shopping and some restaurants. The volcano is about a half hour drive away and definitely worth visiting.

The beach was amazing.

The beach was amazing. Especially in the morning before it gets crowded. But because it is quite lengthy even when it gets crowded you have plenty of space for quiet relaxed time. Quality of water excellent. Has some nice snorkel in the rocky sides. Probably the sunsets are stunning- unfortunately cloudy weather during my stay.

It was a very beautiful area, felt really tropical with many coffee farms and snorkeling sites. Enjoyed that we were a little bit higher up then Kona so it would randomly rain and there were night sounds like if we were in the jungle. I stayed 4 nights here and then 3 nights in Kona and I really missed this area when we were in Kona. Choice mart (last min bought me a birthday cake here) and target are kinda the only shopping places tho so we went 30 min to Kona for Walmart a few times. I wish I would have adventured more in this area. We missed out on going to the Painted church garden area and the Capitan Cook monument because our priorities were snorkeling here. We did check out Greenwell coffee farm which was nice and got shave ice at HAWAIIAN NINJA SHAVE ICE & Manta ray night snorkeling at Dolphin discoveries. Kamakana playground was near by and my kids loved it! Super cool playground.

Lots of great beaches, recommend the southern ones for snorkeling, like “two steps”. If you want a true black sand beach, go way south, you can drive right to it. If you want a nice trip, drive the coastal route to Hilo, the saddle road is shrter but dull.
