The house was built in 1939, with Lander Street itself being developed from the 1920s to 1940s. This puts most houses on this street between 85 and 100 years old, making it very old by Reno standards. Originally, this house was 2 bedrooms with 1 bathroom. This area is referred to as Old Southwest Reno (historic residential area), but it overlaps with Midtown Reno (the trendy, walkable corridor). It is considered as one of the most desirable parts of Reno today because of its mix of history and lifestyle. This was one of Reno’s early “nice neighborhood expansions” which was built for middle- and upper-class residents of early Reno. It was still close to downtown but quieter and more residential. It was designed before cars dominated cities, hence the walkable layout. With Reno booming in the early 1900s due to the railroad, gambling, and divorce laws wealthier residents moved just outside the downtown area.
