Nevada

Nevada is best known for Las Vegas, a playground of casinos, shows, and pool parties. Beyond the Strip the state offers desert landscapes, mountain lakes, and outdoor adventure. Families will find theme-park energy and easy day trips, while solo travelers can chase nightlife or hiking.

Top highlights are the Las Vegas Strip and Lake Tahoe. Don’t miss a day trip to Hoover Dam and a hike in Red Rock Canyon. Stay in Las Vegas for shows, Reno for Tahoe access, and South Lake Tahoe for beaches and skiing all year round.

Las Vegas

Vegas is always fun but the temperature outside can be a bit overwhelming…one day it got up to 109 degrees. But other than that, I stayed at a really nice Studio Airbnb and the at Boulder Station for the rest of my trip…overall it was about a 7.5 rating… That’s not bad!

Laughlin

I like that every casino had a lot of slots machines and that it is not as crowded as Las Vegas. I also liked that Bullhead city was just a cross the river with its stores and restaurants. What I did not like about Laughlin was the higher prices for gasoline, sodas, ice, chips.

Reno

Reno is a great jumping off point for the rest of Northern Nevada as well destination for top notch western hospitality that is not Las Vegas yet has that pallet of offerings. I enjoy my time in Reno because I know the town and what it has to offer, which is worth a few nights or years depending on your tastes.

Stateline

Stateline is undergoing a huge transformation. Harveys is being re-branded with a ton of construction. Inside was seriously a shell of itself. Golden Nugget is also under construction and remodel. The whole area just felt run down. Not the Stateline we remembered from years past. I am sure it will improve once construction ends, but at this time it is a work in progress.

Ely

The area around Ely is very beautiful and is the reason we came to Ely. Sadly the town itself looks like it is suffering economically. Many of the businesses were shut town and boarded up. There were not too many places to eat either for breakfast or dinner especially a bit later at night. We thought Ely would be more of a tourist town and that it would be open later especially with casinos. We had no interest in casinos but thought that would bring in business.

The first time I went to Pahrump was in the 90s.
Pahrump

The first time I went to Pahrump was in the 90s. It has grown considerably in population since then. I have been visiting a friend who lives in Pahrump for the last 21 years. Unfortunately, I don't have many good things to say about it. It's an old wild west town. The roads are paved; the potholes are many. They have "poof dirt" which is bad for your lungs. They have monsoon flooding which is bad for your insurance. I would suggest doing a little research on the cancer rates. All ailments needing specialists means you have to drive and hour into Las Vegas. There is no bus service in town or to Las Vegas. Overall, for ME, I am glad my friend has moved so I don't have to visit here any longer.
