Company info

Inspired by Scott's 2012 Appalachian Trail "thru-hike", we acquired this historic property that year and have worked diligently to bring it back to life for the purpose of sharing with others. Here at Mountain Home, we have the joy of greeting guests from all over the world and all walks of life. Everyone is welcome at Mountain Home! Breakfast in the Main House is included and is always offered to all guests. The food is simple but fresh, and is organic and sourced locally, as much as possible. We work with our guests to meet all their dietary restrictions and can easily accommodate guests who need to stay gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegetarian, or vegan.

Property info

Built in 1847, the Main House has been fully restored and is included in both the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Registry. The property's history dates to the 1780's and includes a fascinating diary written by teenage Annie Gardner during the Civil War. We happily provide tours of the Main House to anyone, upon request. For more on the history of Mountain Home, look up Mountain Home BB. Special features include spacious rooms with high ceilings, faux-bois painted doors and baseboards, all tastefully appointed with plush rugs and antique furniture. When you stay at Mountain Home, you are welcome to use the Parlor, Dining Room, Breakfast Room, Game Room, and Fitness Room as well as the patio. The Main House is just 1 of 7 buildings on the property. The "Cabbin" frequently houses hikers from the nearby Appalachian Trail. We have restored the chicken coop, meat house, and 1 garage, and are working to restore another garage and a sheep shed.

Neighborhood info

Mountain Home is just 120 steps east of the Appalachian Trail on Route 522 near Front Royal, VA, just 3 1/2 miles from the Shenandoah National Park's northern boundary.
