Good value and worth a visit just for the history of the place. What you might expect from a 19th century rescue, but done with pride and purpose. We would stay again.

Property info

The Wedding Cake House was built in 1867 and was last fully occupied by the famous Tirocchi sisters dressmakers (1915 to 1947) and the Tirocchi family. The house fell into disrepair and was abandoned sometime in the 1990's till 2016. The Dirt Palace (a local arts organization) began renovating the house in 2016 to serve as a project based Artist Residency Facility that is supported by short term rentals for people visiting Providence. Aside from hosting residencies at the Wedding Cake House, we also operate the house as Bed & Breakfast for guests with interests in the arts and regional history who want to support contemporary art practices through their travel budgets. Funds generated through the Bed & Breakfast help us to fund the creation of new artistic works, artist residencies at the Wedding Cake House, and keep afloat The Dirt Palace as an organization more generally. for which we are deeply grateful.

Neighborhood info

Providence’s historic Federal Hill neighborhood spans iconic Atwells Avenue and the surrounding streets. Largely settled by Italian-American immigrants in the early 1900s, Federal Hill effuses a sense of warmth and community that embraces visitors and locals alike.
