Johan is a celebrated architect, artist and real life walking encyclopedia on the history of architecture, the printing industry, the agricultural heritage, farms, nature trails, art and everything gourmand in the valley. Johan will take you on the road less traveled to discover the hidden treasures of the Paarl. One of the hidden gems of Paarl is Paarl rock, the bulbous granite outcrop that is part of the larger Paarl Mountain. The town got it`s name from this smooth, flawless “gem”, defining the skyline of the third oldest town and European settlement in the Republic of South Africa (after Cape Town and Stellenbosch) Christelle van Rensburg is much loved and "famous" amongst friends and family as well as guests for her warm heart and cooking skills.Christelle is a retired professional medical caregiver.

This Historic home set in a tranquil garden in the peaceful centre of Paarl is a hidden gem, soon to be discovered by the discerning traveler of note. Walking distance from restaurants and coffee shops - 200 meter. The perfect base for exploring the winelands, cheese & olive farms, and many boutique styled working farms. Apart from being a holiday destination in itself, Afrika Pearl offers a safe dwelling when visiting parents in old age homes, relatives in hospitals or school children at hostel. Owners Johan & Christelle van Rensburg refurbished this historic home dating back to the early 1900`s. Johan is the 3rd generation van Rensburg born in this house . The name Paarl is Afrikaans and derived from Parel, meaning Pearl in Dutch. Our guest house name was chosen not only because of our location in the Paarl but because a Pearl embodies a person or entity of great worth. Our town (the 3rd oldest in SA ) and the legacy of Nelson Mandela stands firm in the contribution of greatness to our country. There are four comfortable accommodation offerings to choose from = Granite Grey, Tranquility, Here you can slow down and learn the Afrikaans art of "STOEP SIT".

The perfect base from where you can take a bike ride into the mountains or explore the many museums like the Afrikaans Taal Monument. The "Heemkring" is another hidden treasure - being the archives that holds the key to the rich history of the Cape. Just around the corner runs a river and on it`s banks you will find an Arboretum ( Botanical garden for trees ) housing more than a thousand different trees from all over the world. The Paarl is famous for having some of the best schools in South Africa where more than 35000 scholars in around 62 schools, learn how to be gentlemen and ladies! No wonder that Paarl Boys High and Paarl Gymnasium "produced" world famous "Springbok" rugby players like Mannetjies Roux , Jean de Villiers, Corne Krige, Kobus Wiese, Guthrow Steenkamp, Thinus Linee and Chester Williams.
