Domaine Coutelier is the creation of Quint & Floriane Cutler who decided to shake off the rat race existence of Metroplitan lifestyle in France for a rural existence in South Africa’s Cape of Good Hope region. After a brief flirt with South Africa and particularly Stellenbosch in 2009, the seeds were planted for this new adventure. So in 2011, the Cutler family uprooted lock, stock and barrel, swapping the bustling hill of Paris' Montmartre for the Oak leaf soils on the slopes of Stellenbosch's fertile hills. They fell in love with a vineyard in the Devon Valley Devonvale area of Stellenbosch, set on a plateau with 360° views overlooking Stellenbosch to the East and Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs to the West. Coutelier, a direct translation of “Cutler” into French, pays honour to their roots. While Quint is British, born and bred, he took French nationality in 2020 and Floriane is from Britanny on France's Atlantic Coast. Quint was an avid brewer making various types of craft beer in his late teens and early twenty’s. While wine wasn’t the popular choice in Britain in those days Quint also experimented with wine making and contemplated a career in the wine Industry. However fate had other things in mind and Quint went on to embark upon an international career in aviation and transport. Floriane Cutler, passionate about people, spent the largest part of her career in the humanitarian industry, working in Iraq and Bosnia amongst others. Her last position was as Director for Fundraising and Communications at AIDES, an HIV/AIDS Association caring for and lobbying on behalf of those affected by the condition. Both with a love of wine and a taste for adventure, set the scene for this couple’s move to the Wine Lands in South Africa and a return to Quint’s passion of wine making with wife and two Children.

Established as one of South africa's leading boutique wine farms, Domaine Coutelier is pleased to offer three modern cottages for overnight or short stays. The area is extremely quiet, beautiful in a rural setting with wonderful walks or off road cycling for those keen to enjoy what nature offers. Each cottage is peaceful, private and discreet. There are no vehicles or urban noises on the property, the only sounds you will hear are the tweeting of birds, the occasional neighing of a horse from one of the numerous neighbouring stud farms and your own voices. Named Sunrise, Sunset and Moonrise for obvious reasons, the cottages have views that are among the most beautiful and stunning in the region. Sunrise is single bedroom East facing Cottage giving spectacular views of Stellenbosch Mountain, Simonsberg Mountain, Helderberg Mountain, with the Draconsberg Mountain range in the distance. Moonrise is a two bedroom East facing Cottage with spectacular views of Stellenbosch Mountain, Helderberg, with the Draconsberg Mountain range in the distance. This cottage also boasts a private pool. Sunset is a single bedroom West facing Cottage, offering spectacular Sunsets with a wonderful view of the night lights of Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs. Each Cottage has a fully equiped kitchen, living room area with a separate ensuite bedroom with a Kingsize bed. Moonrise Cottage has a second smaller bedroom. Each Cottage has a stoop with loungers and table, chairs Braai (barbecue) and a small private secured garden with Lawn. We accept most pets who enjoy a safe and secure environment in individual, fenced in gardens. Our award winning wines are available for tasting onsite. Complimentary for guests. Traffic willing, Domaine Coutelier is a three minute drive or twenty minute walk to Devon Valley Golf course, a fifteen minute drive to the Centre of Stellenbosch and a thirty-five minute drive to the heart of Cape Town. This ideally situated wine farm is a mere two kilometres from Devon Vale Golf Course, 15 minutes from the heart of Stellebosch and a 35 minute drive to Cape Town. This is the perfect location for traveller's, pleasure seekers and explorers alike, seeking a genuine South African experience. Domaine Coutelier is situated on the old 17th Century Devon Vale farm, set on a plateau between Devon Valley and Devon Vale, which was split in the 1950's into smaller portions. The Domaine consists of a four hectare plot. Grapes have been grown on this land for decades. Visible to the East are the mountains of Simonsberg, Groot Drakenstein, Jonkershook, Stellenbosch, Helderberg with the Hottentots –Holland to the South, Paarl Rock and surrounding mountains to the North East, Durbanville Hills and Cape Town Suburbs to the North West. There are numerous wonderful walks, straight from the farm, from a ten minute daily constitional to the most abitious of hikes. Domaine Coutelier is within the Bottelary Road ward of Stellenbosch. For wonderful winetasting experiences, in addition to the property's own award winning wines, there are numerous winery's offering tastings. The Bottelary Hills wine route includes Beyerskloof, Hartenberg, Kunjani, Domaine Coutelier, Bellevue, Fort Simon, Groenland, Mooiplaas, Kaapzicht and Hazendal. All within a ten minute drive of the property. The Bottelary Hills Mountain bike tracks (MBT) are within 1 km of the property. Enjoy a 120km trail network through rolling hillsides, conservation areas, vineyards and farmland. Multiple route options cater for various skill and fitness levels. Stellenbosch is known for its abundance of high quality golf courses. The wine farm is within a 2 minute drive from Devonvale Golf Course, a 6 minute drive to Hazendal Golf Course, a 10 minute drive from Kuilsrivier Golf Course, 15 minutes from Stellenbosch Golf Course, 20 minutes from De Zalze Golf course and 30 minutes from the Iconic Helderberg Village Golf Club.
