A luxurious self-catering farmhouse in the serene Buffeljags River Valley, just 13 km from the historic town of Swellendam. Lowergroen Guesthouse offers the perfect blend of modern comfort and countryside elegance. Enjoy free Wi-Fi, a Smart TV with DStv and Netflix, and a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, dishwasher, and air fryer - ideal for easy holiday cooking. The farmhouse features both indoor and outdoor braai areas, perfect for relaxed evenings with family or friends. A spacious garden invites you to unwind while enjoying breathtaking views of the Langeberg mountains. Parking is a breeze with a single garage directly connected to the house, complemented by ample outdoor parking space. Families are especially welcome! Kids can enjoy a trampoline, balls, a frisbee, books, and puzzles - perfect for hours of fun while you relax. We’re also pet-friendly! Your furry friends are welcome at Lowergroen Guesthouse for an additional fee of R350 per night. Plan your visit during harvest season (November to February) to experience the farm in full swing. Tractors hum through the orchards, and friendly farm workers bring the land to life with their early morning bustle. It’s an authentic, energising atmosphere - though maybe not ideal if you’re hoping to sleep in late! At Lowergroen we use fresh mountain water sourced from the Buffeljags Dam. You may notice a natural brown tint - this comes from tannins released by fynbos plants, much like how tea gets its colour. While the appearance might seem unusual, the water is microbiologically and chemically safe, and perfectly fine for everyday use.
We’re a family of five living on a working farm in one of the most beautiful corners of South Africa. Neels grew up here and is proud to be the 4th generation to farm this land. It’s a privilege to raise our children in such a special place - and to welcome guests to share in the peace, beauty, and simplicity of farm life.
Swellendam offers plenty to explore nearby: a lively Saturday market with live music, local food, and drinks; as well as horse riding, mountain biking, and scenic hiking trails. While you're here, don’t miss the charming Oude Post Bistro in Buffeljagsrivier, just 2.8 km away - famous for its traditional roosterkoeke and excellent cappuccinos.
