FinlandThis place is top-notch: one of the most beautiful places in Finland, stylish, and very high build quality. Accessible but at the same time peaceful, and you experience the silence. It far exceeded our expectations. Everything you need will be there-even something to eat in the first morning. The small things that surprise you are included in the price.
We wanted to have a hole in the ice to go from the sauna. The owner did the hole for us (>60cm solid ice to saw) and the kids also got afterwards a short ride on the snowmobile-first in their life. High-quality firewood does not run out. Snowshoes and cross-country skis are available. The owners are very kind and helpful and always there to help if needed.
When booking, I worried the wire payment, but it is safe.
Tip: the cottage is by a lake with a wide-open sky, and I saw northern lights every clear night. At night, go to the shore and switch off all artificial light. Let eyes adjust to the darkness and a good chance to see mild northern lights exists; look north, too. Full-sky, fireworks-like northern lights are rarer.
Tip: there are two saunas: an outdoor wood-heated one and an indoor electric one. Try the wood-heated (very good), but don’t heat it like an electric sauna. In winter, heat it to slightly above 70°C (higher in summer) and then keep only a small fire. Throw water frequently on the rocks. You’ll get a very comfortable, humid “löyly”. You can heat it hot like an electric sauna but you miss its essence.
