The suite was very clean and comfortable. The one we stayed in had 4 bedrooms plus one huge living room that was very well decorated. There were two bathrooms and an in-house Onsen at the inn. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the basic tools to cook such as a rice cooker, and a medium-sized stove, utensils. Even though the suite is located inside the inn, we still felt very private. All the rooms and the living area had good heaters. The door code and check-in instructions were provided via message on Booking.com. Overall, we were very happy with the stay!

You can walk to the slopes in about 5 minutes, which is nice. Our room was simple but satisfactory. What makes this place stand out is the exceptional service and friendliness from the staff. Not only did they help us navigate the little town, but the manager went above and beyond by giving snowboarding lessons and even droving us to town for dinner. They were great guides that really helped us make the best of our time in Madarao. Overall, it's a very relaxed and communal vibe in the lodge, which was what we were looking for.

Although, the room’s private onsen can only accommodate one person, it was incredible to have that to yourself after a long day on the slopes. The hotel design has a nostalgic 80s feel to it.

The outside Onsen is just gorgeous! We loved that you can reserve it for private use in the evenings. We highly recommend the traditional Japanese breakfast. Centrally located just below the train station.

Excellent stay in a traditional Ryokan. The couple running the hotel are absolutely fantastic, offering to drive us to the Monkey Park and collect/drop us off at the train station (a 15 minute walk away) and were very helpful in giving recommendations and informative leaflets about the area. There was a Onsen in the hotel that was private for the guests and the stay also included free use of all 14 public Onsens in the village. The room was enormous with a private toilet and fridge (no shower as this was within the Onsen space). We were worried about the comfort of the tatami mat beds but they were very comfortable. Air conditioning and heating both available in the room. Lovely choice of restaurants in the area and beautiful little village. Breakfast and dinner options available but we did not use this.

Excellent hotel in Yamanouchi. We appreciated the staff (and their level of English), the super nice traditional rooms (sleeping on a futon was a wonderful experience), the upstairs public bath and the delightful breakfast.
