Wow, this was a beautiful and unexpected find. I needed a last minute place and when I saw this on booking I almost thought it was a scam because there weren't reviews, I couldn't find it on google and the photos seemed to good to be true. Turns out, the property is only just opening for private guests, having been exclusively a space for business retreats and conferences until only last week. And the stay was absolutely excellent. The staff was kind and friendly; the building, decor, and rooms were gorgeous; the breakfast was delicious; and the location is right by the L1 & L2 trams, around the corner from Gare deMarseille Sant-Charles, and easy to get to other parts of the city or enjoy the area around Longchamp. Only wish I had been able to stay a few extra nights there. Would highly recommend staying at Châteauform' Marseille-Longchamp

FAQs about hotels in Marseille

A City Built from the Sea

Founded by the Phocaeans in 600 B.C., the long history of Marseille has produced an interesting and dynamic port-side city bursting with cultural diversity. Watch the fishermen sell their catch by auction at Vieux Harbor or cruise along the Corniche roads with views of the Calanques, dramatic rocky inlets to the sea.

The le Cours Julien and la Plaine areas provide a trendy hangout and every Thursday and Saturday morning, the Plaine market offers its various wares. This is the area to buy a novel from a hip bookshop or watch your kids on one of the playgrounds. There are also plentiful cafes to sip a cappuccino and watch the world go by.

If a culture packed vacation is on the agenda, the Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne, Notre Dame de la Garde and Palais Longchamp won’t disappoint. The unique Unité d'Habitation, designed by famous architect Le Corbusier, contains everything from a shopping street to housing and has spectacular views of the terracotta landscape that makes Marseille so distinctive.

Marseille is a short trip from Marseille Provence Airport, so your holiday can start promptly. With over 100 hotels and apartments available, Booking.com is the perfect place to find great accommodation and start your journey in the largest city on the Côte d'Azur.

We visited Notre Dame de la Garde, with a beautiful view on Marseille. We went to the Calanques of Sormiou, beautiful view and unforgettable hiking. We went to the Vieux Port and to the beach (Catalans). 2 days were perfect to visit the most beautiful places of Marseille. Bus and metro are easy. I’d like to come back !

Marseille has beaches, art, hot weather, national parks,...

Marseille has beaches, art, hot weather, national parks, picture-postcard settings dotted all over, chocolatiers, bars, great dining options and everything we like about France. It can be busy and noisy yes, but we witnessed no trouble and having been on the beaches every day, we saw no bad behaviour (Catalan has police and city officials present on the beach). There are lockers at Pointe Rouge and Catalan, which are great. Graffiti adds a good vibe in Le Panier and Cours Julien. 72 hour Metro passes are good value and can be bought in any station. The buses have a tap-scan for using your bank card and the RTM app is very helpful for getting buses around the city. This was our 4th visit and this time we did parasailing at Chateauneuf les Martigues and snorkeling in the Calanque, which were great for family activities. My next trip is to Nice but I will definitely be back in Marseille.

We'd heard it's on the up and up and that was very much our experience. There were some really great neighborhoods, great shopping, great food. The best part of it all for us three 60-something, active travelers was the Blue Evasion boat tour. We swam in the Calanques and loved every minute of our time on board and in the water. In the future, we'd spend about a day, day and a half there, but do more in the surrounding areas like Aix and Arles. Definitely worth seeing the churches, shops, museums - but stay on the water!!

If Lisbon and Neaples had a baby it would be Marseille.

If Lisbon and Neaples had a baby it would be Marseille. A bit chaotic, but really lively, has cosy spots, has some rough spots, definitely very unique. First evening we arrived at 2 am because our train was late, so we took a taxi to our hotel and driving though the city it felt a bit unsafe at first, but later we had 2 more evenings there and one was very late (~11pm or later) and this unsafe feeling didn't return. I feel a bit sad because we missed out on some places we wanted to visit because our travel circunstances were changed, so we didn't see as much as we hoper in this city. I would love to come back here. I'd say 2-3 days for Marseille itself is great to see all the main spots in the city and some more.

Marseille exceeded our expectations.

Marseille exceeded our expectations. Despite some of the negative opinions you may hear, we found the city to be vibrant, welcoming, and full of character. The areas we visited felt safe, clean, and lively, both during the day and in the evening. The beautiful Old Port, charming streets, excellent restaurants, and stunning coastal views made it a fantastic destination. Marseille has a unique atmosphere that combines history, culture, and Mediterranean charm, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic French city break.

I was also in Marseille last year as well.

I was also in Marseille last year as well. Marseille has a lot to offer travellers. However, it depends what type of holiday you are looking for. I don't mind sitting on a beach for a short time, but that was not my main reason to visit. There is much to do and see in Marseille Many places of interest to see - museums, galleries, churches. Take a sail from the port. An ample supple of good restaurants. Good connections from main airport into the city and main railway station. Easy to visit other towns and cities along the coast and inland. Take a bus to Cassis - beautiful, or to Aix en Provence., or a train to Nice. Go on a Monday when there in a great street market - I had a superb lunch in a restaurant at the side. Only 20 euros return. Just stop for a drink down by the port and people watch for a while - its surprising who you see passing by. Trams and buses are frequent and cheap.

I highly recommend Les Appartements du Vieux Port. I came to Marseille with my family. The apartment was very clean and quiet. The location is perfect. The staff were super kind and supportive given my mother's limited mobility. I will absolutely stay here when I return to Marseille. Thank you for your wonderful service!
