Beautiful old hotel right in the historic zocalo. Very clean, comfortable room with plenty of hot water, coffee maker, and bottled water everyday. Wi-Fi was very strong. We loved and used our balcony constantly to hear the happenings in the zocalo. 2 working elevators and great bellmen to help with anything. We absolutely loved our stay!

Beautifully decorated. The hotel always smelled amazing between the incense and fresh pine leaves hanging as Christmas decorations. The roof deck and Cantanita next door were great to relax at. Amazing walkable location in the heart of Oaxaca.

Wonderful, exciting, interesting.

Wonderful, exciting, interesting. Shops, buildings, restaurants, history. Be sure to wear the most comfortable shoes you own. Tennis shoes, yes. Flip flops-definitely no. We took a tour of downtown the first day, so we could explore on our own, every day after.

The place is a very good one to visit if you are passing or you are going to stay for long, there are many restaurants and street food too so plenty of food options and prices. You can find a lot of clothing and artisanal stuff. You can find better prices here than in stores or the airport, never buy at airport everything is super expensive there

Oaxaca is a very walkable city with lots to see.

Oaxaca is a very walkable city with lots to see. There are wonderful churches and architecture, great restaurants and plenty of cute shops and galleries. I highly recommend it! Be sure to plan day trips to the neighboring Monte Alban to the West and the Tule Tree and Hiever el Agua to the East.

Beautiful Centro Historico area, of course!

Beautiful Centro Historico area, of course! However, where we stayed, just a few blocks from the Centro (where Juarez meets Hwy. 190), there is a large ravine (barranca) that reeks to high Heaven, just like an open sewer! Our hotel, the Mision Los Angeles, was very nice, except when the breeze from this nearby barranca wafted over the place, and it was truly nauseating. Oaxaca was recently touted as the “best city in the world” to visit by Travel + Leisure magazine. If they wish to retain this status, the Municipal government had best address these odiferous ravines, muy pronto!

A million nice bars from local dives (karaoke is big here) to high-end cocktail lounges. Lots of mezcalerias and many bars, high to low, have their own house-mezcal. Azcala Street is the main strip for both tourists and where the other night life branches out. The Spanish Colonial architecture is amazingly well preserved/restored. Much like the historic district in CDMX, except in better condition and much, much livelier at night.
