SingaporeBetelnut sits amongst a local village - local kids wander through, village dogs make themselves comfortable wherever they please, and life just carries on around you. The beach is entirely locals - men, women and kids collecting seaweed, fishing, bathing their horse. We didn't see a single other tourist the whole time. For anyone tired of over-touristed destinations, it's a genuine breath of fresh air.
Food is communal and freshly made every day. Simple, delicious, no fuss. It became one of our favourite parts of the day.
The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful without being in your face. They can also organise a solid range of local activities if you want to explore.
It's not for everyone, if you need air conditioning and room service, this isn't your place. But if you want to actually experience somewhere rather than just visit it, Betelnut delivers in a way that's hard to find anymore.
