"I lived there for a year, fell in love with that city and coming back is always a great pleasure. The city is just perfect: great sightseeing, nice things around like Roubaix or the Opale coast, great food, fantastic people. Highly recommend going there for a weekend!"

"I have known and stayed in Calais since I was a small child and seen amazing changes over the years. The regeneration and development of the sea front is outstanding. All the activities for children of every age are brilliant. The provision of varied play areas outstanding. Well patrolled by France,s equivalent of lifeguards. What a wonderful beach beautiful white sand. Plenty of ice cream vans and snack vans dotted about. And I absolutely love the mechanical dragon parading up and down the promenade carrying people of all ages and hissing and spitting water along the way. I really can't praise sea front enough Town hall magnificent well worth a visit and the lace museum. A couple of beautiful parks for a bit of peace.Calais just needs to improve the older town centre and try and encourage better independent shops. Plenty of choice to eat to suit all pockets in Calais Nord and excellent market a couple of times a week. It's such a pity a lot of travellers to Calais just pass through onwards to other areas. They,re missing a gem ."

"Le Touquet-Paris-Plage is one of my favorite spot in France. I have been coming here to visit family and friends for many, many years and I always enjoy it in spite of the weather not always cooperating. A visit to the Thursday/Saturday market is a must as well as a long walk along the "digue" or on the beach and down Rue St Jean for some shopping!! Also there is always something to do, see and experience year around. I just love Le Touquet!!"

We had a wonderful stay in the Space Room at Inthemia. The theme is very original and beautifully done — it really feels like stepping into another world. The room was spotless, comfortable, and very well equipped. The atmosphere is calm and unique, perfect for a special and memorable stay. The host was welcoming and attentive, and everything was well organized. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something different from a standard hotel!

Loved this hotel! The room was huge! The beds were very comfy. The pool area was small but not busy, and the steam room and Jacuzzi were both great. The staff really made an effort to make us feel welcome and the building inside and out is very grand. It is a perfect location, close enough to be a short walk from the front but far enough away not to be noisy. We loved it.

So much to do in Lille. Great architecture, excellent shopping, and many great restaurants. Come in September to see the city-wide yard sale, attended by people from all over Europe. Must try moules frites, and the famous Merveilleux (bakery item invented in Lille and now known all over the world)

Most travellers see Calais from the ship or the tunnel and bypass it completely. But it has a lot to offer. The beach area is excellent with superb beaches, plenty of activities for the kids, play area, skate park, volleyball. There is a nice promenade to walk and an added attraction of a giant mechanical dragon, which moves slowly along the prom, carrying up to 30 people and breathing out fire. Just a little way from the beach are the fortified walls. You pass the well filled marina on the way into the town. In the town are there are plenty of restaurants and cafes. At La Place des Armes there is a splash zone , parking and seating. Walking down the ever present decorations of the Rue Royale you find many small shops, restaurants and cafes. Further on , near the station, there is a lovely park, Parc St Pierre, with seating, fountain and a small museum. Opposite the park is the fabulous city hall. You can see the tower from the ship as you enter the port. Superb gardens in front with ever changing themes. On from there up the Boulevard Jacquard there are more restaurants and shops and a mall near the crossroads of the three boulevards. Directly opposite is the Grand Theatre of Calais, worth visiting just to see the building. There are always plenty of cultural events going on. Calais is worth more than just a drive past.

Amazing places to visit. A lot from history, and arts. A place for calmness and comfort. My whole family couldn’t get enough of the evening walks to the beach, and play by the shore. French bread and patries were delicious, and seafood! I would say it is a place I wanna visit again.

The Haute Ville (or: Ville Fortifié) is extraordinary beautiful, nice restaurants and a piazza like in Rome; the church Notre Dame is definitely worth more than one visit. The lower part towards the beach is a bit...decrepit. Nevertheless, many nice restaurants and shops, and we always felt safe. People were very friendly, even if our attempts to communicate in French came to an early stop, as they all seem to speak English and are eager to use it. The Nausicaa was simply horrible (more computer screens than aquariums, narrow, crowded, humid, hot. One can safely skip it. Very beautiful landscape (the two caps, Calais), lots of Biosupermarkets and Boulangeries around...wonderful for a relaxing stay.

Le Touquet is a great place, extremely popular with tourists so be prepared for big crowds. During weekends and holiday seasons. But it does have a herring gull issue so in July and August be prepared for potential sleepless nights. But aside from that we had a great time. Loved it.

What a beautiful place, and cheaper than Le Touquet. The beach is to die for! I would have stayed longer but do find out if is a bank holiday as most of the shops etc were shut and we couldn't even get a carton of milk! The town does need to sort out its wifi, it was non existent, so we couldn't find restaurants or contact home...the locals say it is a consistent problem!

It is a pleasant, clean and comfy place to stay, conveniently located for the Ferry Port with friendly, efficient staff. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a good menu and good quality food. It would have been nice to have had a bath rather than a shower in our room. Other than that, our stay was pleasant and we'd willing stay there again and have no reservations about recommending it to anyone wanting or needing to stay near Calais.

Wimereaux has a very long beach so plenty of space.

Wimereaux has a very long beach so plenty of space. It wasn't even high season but the parking was impossible as it was obviously a very popular place. Impossible to get into a restaurant unless you had booked. We only had a one night stopover and hadn't realised it was going to pose such problems. Not a good meal (almost cold chips - service so slow we almost gave up and a rather boring meal all round) but a very nice ice cream place just across the road. Unless I was wanting to spend time on the beach I would't recommend this place.

Arras is a lovely medium-sized town with a fabulous main square full of life on a summer evening and visually stunning. This is a gem of a place - a well-chosen alternative to Lille which is fine but a bit characterless in comparison. Great for walking about and simply enjoying being in a proper French town full of friendly locals.
