The family running the hotel were so wonderful- they were smiley and helpful, helping us to book taxis, giving us advice about hikes & transport. When accommodation at our next place didn't work out they happily allowed us to stay another 2 nights. The views over the mountains, tropical plants & coast are breathtaking, and the inner garden courtyard where the rooms face is full of banana & breadfruit trees as well as tropical flowers. The breakfast is big & varied day by day- the view from the breakfast roof terrace room is stunning. They gave us tinfoil to take the sandwiches we had made from breakfast on our hike with us.

I have no words to describe how much I loved this place. I felt instantly at home and I could have stayed for a whole month without getting bored. It’s incredibly comfortable, clean and well located. The food is delicious. The owner helped us plan our days with amazing tips and the animals just wanted to cuddle whenever given a chance. I have to come back!

we came here without any expectatuons and were surprused - in a good way. The hotel is in the center few steps away from the main pedestrian street, few steps away from the beach(s). All the staff is very helpful, kind willing to give you advice if one is needed. Breakfast is good, room was pleasant. I liked it.

This is one of the best hotels in Sal Rei due to many reasons: very central position (actually, the best one as it is only few steps from the central square and the best restaurants), with very helpful and nice personnel. Moreover, our room had a direct view to the ocean. I can highly suggest this hotel as it is the best compromise for position, service and price.

Our favorite part was the location. We were able to walk into town whenever we wanted, but we still benefited from the amazing facilities. The beautiful pool was probably the reason we booked the space, and it did not disappoint. The staff were also very attentive, friendly, and helpful. By the second day, every lunch, I had a glass of water with lemon waiting for me.

We absolutely LOVED our family stays here! Basic Hotel came with a nice breakfast, warm water, daily cleaning service, and they even folded our clothes! We also mentioned to them that we were headed on a day trip, to Santo Antao, and asked how breakfast worked on that day, because we had to leave early. They told us they would make us a breakfast package & they gave it to us the night before we left to Santo Antao. The Laginha Beach was only a 15 min walk, from the hotel, but they have quiet hours at 11pm; after being out all day, that was really easy, for our family. If you’re out past daylight, take a taxi home; even Cabo Verdean’s do it, because of the homeless people. Basic Hotel was basic & by no means perfect (couldn’t use the bathtub), but the basic hotel had a clean & safe environment, and made us feel very welcome. Other info: -The rivalry plays in the morning, which was funny to hear it live (not just an alarm tone). -In Mindelo supermarkets, we found bringing a physical card (with pin), was easiest, for CVE money. -Check in was no problem & we paid upon arrival. -We asked about parking, because we had a rental car for a few days, and there was a parking spot close by (maybe 20 steps away) & other spots within walking distance, too. -A supermarket was not far (maybe 5 min walking time), where we bought jugs of water (it’s recommended to use bottled water only, for consumption). -Fruits were bought in the big market hall (beautiful place) called Mercado Municipal Mindelo. -The hotel let us checkout early, gave us breakfast the night before (upon request), arranged a taxi for 5 (had cost 20 Euros total upon airport arrival) & - Use Google translate if you don’t speak Portuguese, with the free hotel wifi

This is a relatively fair 4* beach hotel. Decent food, good all-inclusive package. Good conditions at the hotel's beach. We used four different restaurants (included in the package). Meals are ok for the price paid, but don't expect anything spectacular. Good variety at buffets. Staff at restaurants usually helpful. Bech huts are ok, we can see they have been improved since our last stay, definitely not your standard 4*, I would rank them a 3*. But, for a beach experience, they are adequate, no complaints.

The half day trip to Blue Eye, Terra Boa, Shark Bay and Salt Lake is a must see. All were amazing experiences and do take lots of photos too. I tried the local delicacy, Cachupa which was served in my B & B and was really tasty.

There are many places to visit at this side of the island.

There are many places to visit at this side of the island. Xoxo, Cova crater, the walk between Cruzinha and Ponta do Sol, Paul valley, Synagoga are all fantastic. If you don't fear heights and like to hike up or down, then you find breathtaking views and hidden gems wherever you go. Hiking routes are fairly signaled, though we lost the way sometimes - but every time we found something extra, a nice village, terraces, locals working in the gardens or on the fields. The town is not big, but have some nice restaurants and bars to eat and drink. Easy to find taxi or aluguer, though not many are running on Sundays.

Lovely small town by the coast close to mountain trails. We stayed 5 nights but would have happily stayed another couple of nights. Good restaurants in town including an authentic Italian place run by an Italian and serving home-made pasta with tables on his terrace. He has a wonderful model town, that he has made himself, on display for you to look at while waiting to order. Casa Maracuja served good local cuisine and we also enjoyed the food at Paladar where they serve cachupa. We had a rental car, but there were also alughers available for transport to Porto Novo, the ferry port.

Beautiful view of the sunset from tidal pools where you can swim protected from the waves. My host arranged a reservation at a private restaurant in someone's home, with live music. It was delicious and a great experience. The town is a little dirty. I didn't stay long enough to really know the town, I'm sure it has its gems.

It's wonderful brand new well equipped and modern apartment. For me the location was fantastic. It was meters from the beach and a supermarket and a great local restaurant. I always talked to town to meet the shuttles and drivers for hikes and the ferry. There is a great balcony - I also cooked and used the washing machine - living room was really wide in comparison to majority of apartment rentals I had. I really loved it.

A small fishing village with about 1000 inhabitants.

A small fishing village with about 1000 inhabitants. It is somewhat developed. It has a good restaurant at Naky*s and a few small grocery stores. The beach is about 2 km long, but it is kind of wild, which means that swimming is at your own risk. There is an attractive hike to the lighthouse nearby, but it is not suitable for those who have problems with heights.

Rabil itself is nothing special - but that's completely...

Rabil itself is nothing special - but that's completely beside the point as you will never go there - it is just the name of a small town close to the airport serving Boa Vista, Cape Verde. The actual jewel is Praia de Chaves which is close to Rabil (about 5 mins drive) - and this beach is as close as you will ever get to paradise. There are some lovely villas available to rent on the beach and an excellent beach bar.

Beirona/ Murdeira is a beautiful place, definitely worth...

Beirona/ Murdeira is a beautiful place, definitely worth choosing if you want to relax on the beach/ by the pool without crowds of people around you. There’s just one shop here ( it has an ATM which is a huge advantage), but it’s well stocked. If you’re not a fan of big resorts, but want a laid back holiday, be sure to visit.
