Everything, glorious classic "old school" Spanish hotel in the heart of the city (10-15min walk from Plaza Mayor), beautifully finished with marble, brass, glazing, chandeliers, reception looks like it should be on the Titanic! Rooms and corridor floors all hardwood parquet (impossible not to squeak when walking), impressive bar, astonishing breakfast choice, A/C, free WiFi that worked well. Secure underground carpark with lift access to all floors. Good value for it's location, will definitely come again when in Salamanca, stayed one night in June, wish it had been longer.

Rodrigo is a lovely town, great for a small town exploration of Spain, but still with lots of history, food, and architecture. It would be easy to spend 2 days here, and enjoy many of the tourist sites, such as the cathedral, cultural centers, Oficina de Turismo, the walls, some of the places. You may need to check opening times of things, so I would recommend going into the very helpful tourist office for advice. The walled, old town area is easily walkable, with one thing to do is to walk around the full wall. It does get very hot in summer, and opening times are very Spanish, but thats part of the experience

Bejar was ok as a jumping off point. If we were to come back to the area we would probably stay in Candolario,. a small town that is more picturesque and only 13 minutes away. The visit to the Plaza del Toro was definitely worth the time as was walking the wall of Bejar.

We stayed at La Alberca for two days and a night, which is enough time to explore the historic charm of this unique town without getting bored. We were able to see all the important parts of the town, enjoy the food offered and even go to one of the spas on the outskirts on our first day. Therefore, we spent the second day walking around the town in a more relaxed fashion and then visited two nearby towns: Miranda de Castañar and Mogarraz. Both (along with others) were recommended by the receptionist at our hotel (Antiguas Eras La Alberca) who was extremely friendly and helped us plan our trip.

We were travelling from the Algarve to Santander to catch the ferry to UK. This was a perfect place to stopover as it was about 2/3rds of the journey. We set off mid morning, arriving around 1900, in time to relax with a drink on the lovely terrace before dinner in the dungeons (excellent meal - best to book your table online with the castle directly). After a leisurely breakfast, it was an easy 3.5 hour drive to Santander to catch the afternoon ferry.

Fabulous old town - an intimate and more manageable version of Caceres. The walk around the ramparts is well worth the effort - with view to die for. La Paloma Restaurant was busy and excellent value for money and the bars that we visited were friendly and bustling. Even our dog was welcome!
