Situated on a quiet side street 2 blocks from the cathedral, this small hotel is nestled among other residences. It is close to the museum, and 5 minutes walk to the shopping pedestrian street - or 10 minutes walk to the theater bus stop (91 or 60) which can go to the airport or downtown center. A grocer is near the bus station, and many restaurants are in the pedestrian shopping street. It was very comfortable, and the entry information was provided by Booking.com text message prior to arrival. No issues with entry via keypad. Nice to have the coffee/tea-making with a light little snack present also. I would stay there again.

FAQs about hotels in Gran Canaria

Year-Round Sun, Sea and Surf

The wonderful, year-round climate, great beaches and lively nightlife make Gran Canaria a popular choice for beach holidays in the Canaries. All of these elements are found in Playa del Inglès, the island’s liveliest resort. The water along the sandy beach offer great surfing conditions, as do those at neighbouring Maspalomas.

Large areas of Gran Canaria are of ecological importance and the incredible Maspalomas sand dunes are no exception. Other nature reserves are the forests of the mountainous centre of the island near San Bartolomé. Nearby Agüimes - a peaceful town known for its cave houses – is a short transfer from Gran Canaria Airport.

Visitors also arrive at the island by ferry to Las Palmas, the capital city which sweeps around a narrow piece of land ending in a mountain. Booking.com has a good range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Gran Canaria, but the greatest concentration are in Puerto Rico, a family-friendly resort with 2 beautiful, horseshoe-shaped bays and the Atlantida waterpark.

Also offering a selection of Gran Canaria hotels for families is Puerto de Mogan, known as ‘Little Venice’ because of its canals. Nestled in the volcanic landscape just along the coast is small Playa Taurito, one of many resorts with hotels with waterslides.

I stayed in Maspalomas (vey touristy and a party place), then Puerto de Mogan (small but modern and well kept fishing village, more sedate), and then Las Palmas. I took buses between the three places and back to the airport - real easy and regular. I booked every hotel last minute, which worked fine for me. I found Las Palmas to be more traditionally Spanish. A regular city on a beautiful sea front. It's not all perfect sand beaches and the sea felt powerful. There is a lifeguard and it still felt safe. The weather is so much cooler than the other two places, but still very pleasant. There is a nice sea cooling breeze. The whole place felt safe. Very little begging or pushy sales techniques. The locals were friendly. The architecture in the older part of the town was stunning.

Playa del Inglés is a wonderfully relaxed place to stay, with golden sands, warm weather, and a lively but easygoing atmosphere. The beach is wide and beautiful, perfect for long walks, sunbathing, or just unwinding by the sea. What makes it even more special is the people, the locals are lovely, friendly, and welcoming, which gives the whole area a warm, inviting feel. It’s the kind of place that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy every moment. It’s also very convenient for getting around the island, with an easy bus service that makes exploring other areas simple. The Jumbo Centre adds to the appeal, with plenty of shops, bars, and nightlife close by, while the area is full of restaurants offering a huge choice of food for every taste. It’s also a great place to book activities, whether you want excursions, water sports, sightseeing, or something more adventurous. Overall, it’s a fantastic base for a holiday relaxed, friendly, and full of everything you need nearby.

The restaurantes in Puerto Rico are so affordable and the cost of the beach beds at Playa de Amadores we thought were very reasonable- we paid £20 for three sun beds and one umbrella. Be careful with the Restaurantes though because the staff are usually very pushy, so don't let them force you to eat with them. Best restaurant we ate at though was Ciao Amadores! The decor was beautiful, the food was amazing, drinks were cheap and the staff were so friendly! There's loads of tourist shops which were so fun and they LOVE it if you speak Spanish to them aha! Finally, you have got to hop on the ferry and visit Puerto de Mogan because it's a gorgeous day out with the markets, restaurantes and buildings.

Lots of lovely restaurants and bars, La Perla by the lighthouse was worth the walk to get to it. It’s a compact resort so there’s never far to walk. Everyone very friendly and helpful. A large market on a Friday makes the place busier but it still has a lovely relaxed vibe. Will definitely be returning to this little gem.

We stayed in Maspalomas.

We stayed in Maspalomas. It was the beginning of March so it was quiet and most bars were not busy or empty (we avoided the Yumbo centre). Despite poor weather in the Canaries, we had a sunny week. The restaurant area around the beach was busy enough but nothing exceptional by way of food and not particularly cheap either. We found The Red Cow which has the odd nice meal and there is a downstairs area called Shenanigans. It all divides into areas/rooms for different sports (lots of Scandinavians like ice hockey) and we spent most nights in the "pub" part which has a great host who does a mix of electronic and verbal quizzes, Play Your Cards Right and Speedbingo, punctuated by short karaoke spots, therby maximising the audience. Maspalomas is for the fit, with many long flights of steps. We went over to the flatter and more upmarket, prettier Meloneras, to see the Giant Lizards but got a sense the waiters didn't like the British (though we were a minority among Scandinavians, Italians and Germans). There used to be "blue parking" bays, 10 years ago, but I note most have been turned over to free parking. We hired a car at the airport but it's largely a nightmare compared to the other islands.
