FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

The property is the most magnificent building in Edinburgh. The staff went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. Loved the cobbelstone streets and the small clusters of restaurants all around. The sound of bagpipes in the background was really lovely, which added to the charm of this lovely city. We found a lovely restaurant and could watch turists go by. There are lots of buses and trams which are easy to use. We took a couple of buses to see the Kelpies in Galloway, and then you can take a lovely walk to the Falkirk wheel. Easy from the airport to the center of edinburgh either bus or tram.

We travelled via the Highlands and it was spectacular views! Fort William has a few known shops but not many restaurants so book a table if you are going. We had dinner at the cinema and food was ok, then took a stroll round the town. Just outside the town is a shipwreck you can walk to and a multi layered lock which was impressive. It’s not too far from Loch Ness. It’s quite touristy but that is expected as it’s on the foot of Ben Nevis.

This city is delightful.

This city is delightful. The history is impressive and the opportunities to visit islands are wonderful. The trip to Iona and back takes most of the day so the time on Iona is short for a one day experience. I would have liked to have stayed in Iona for a night or two. The castle Donollie is a very easy to walk from town and watching the video that explains the history is a must in order to appreciate, the history, land and culture. The Oban distillery tasting/tour is informative and fun. There are several good sea food restaurants. Prepare for rainy weather.

Have visited before, I love the history and being able to take my time looking at the statues and through the graveyard, the maritime museum is one of my daughters favourite places to visit, haven't visited much as I stick to what I enjoy. Plenty of choices for food, wetherspoons is a favourite and frankies is a good choice also, if you have kids you have your standard mcdonalds, burger king and kfc for quick lunches for on the go are always a hit with the kids in my opinion.

Stirling is a good base for exploring Scotland. Regular train service for Glasgow and Edinburgh day trips and for taking trips towards Loch Lomond. Stirling during the day is busy with tourists visiting castle but quieter in evening. Good choice of shops and eating options and I would imagine very geared up for dealing with students of the university during term time.
