The rest of the places the people cannot cook proper tasty food for the hefty price you pay. Travel with Bicycle I would recommend to do snorkelling and see the underwater Statues and Turtles. "I like to spend time there! A lot of good restaurants, nice café coffee shops. There is a local market to buy fruits. The main beach in Kuta is awful, but the beaches around are stunning, such as Tanjung Ann (also for surfing), Tampah Beach, and Mawun! Paradise! Restaurants: La Cuna (Mexican), Elamu (great for a romantic dinner), Jiang Nan. If local – highly recommend Lalapan Amanda."

"Gili Air is a nice laid-back place. Recommend getting a bike bit be prepared to get off on sections of path where sand has encroached, best to go inland to get to different parts of this small island. North Lombok people are friendly and honest. They have had some hard years and are very welcoming to tourists. Prices vary for good and drink and also be prepared that many places do not accept credit cards (typical of all Bali and Lombok). Y Wes the sunsets are amazing, as is the quietness of having no motor vehicles."

"I fell in love with this beach at the first sight! I had visited the beach years ago, one time only for lunch at laut biru restaurant. And I kept dreaming to stay in the nearest resort (sempiak villas) ever since. Thankfully I got the chance couple of years later. This was the best beach I'd ever been to in my life. White, soft and clean sand, blue water, clear sky, amazing sunset. The beach was also not very crowded. There were no pushy bracelet or coconut sellers. The only thing that I personally was not comfortable was the presence of dogs, since I'm a moslem and touching dog's considered "dirty". However, most of them were property's pet and well trained. And the amount of them was not as many as in Bali."

I loved staying at Lepirate😍 very cute, small super super clean houses with two chill pools in the small resort. Its a barefoot beach style relax adult only next to the beach. Staff is super friendly, food is good, bed is super new and great bedding. All happiness guaranteed. Every second day cinema or bonfire on the beach. Gilli Meno is a small relaxing island for sunbathing, cycling and snorkeling. I can really recommend the LePirate. We loved it.

The place was amazing. Rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was outside but there were no bugs or mosquitos. The staff was great and it was possible to book everything with them like rent a scooter, transportation. Breakfast was also amazing with fresh fruits and either pancake or eggs.

Loved this Villa! Staff was friendly and helpful, accommodations were clean and comfortable (loved the outdoor bathroom), and the property is conveniently located in the center of the island making it accessible without being close to the noise and chaos of the beach side. Bikes were easy to rent and I was able to easily reserve a day of snorkeling the night before. Amazing place!

Gila house was a beautiful oasis. It was incredibly clean. Everything seemed new and the entire space was lovely. The staff were wonderful and very attentive. We also loved the breakfast each morning. The location was also fantastic. It was super close to lots of restaurants as well as the beach, but not noisy at night.

Indonesia's Laid-back Lombok

A great alternative to busy Bali is lazy Lombok, a more authentic representation for tourists who wish to explore one of Indonesia’s more than 17,000 islands. It is separated from its naughty neighbor by the Lombok Strait to the east and from Sumbawa by the Alas Strait to the west.

Lombok is a typical island paradise of paddy fields, pristine beaches, jungle escapes and mountain retreats. It is largely inhabited by the local Sasak people with a small percentage of Balinese settlers.

Many hotels on Booking.com are centred around the capital of Mataram and the beaches stretching along the north-eastern coastline, including the sweeping bays of Senggigi. Medana Bay is another great northern location for people wanting to visit the nearby Gili Islands, a wonderful snorkeling location and nightlife choice.

Escape the tropical heat in the mountains surrounding Gunung Rinjani, an active volcano where tourists can break in their newly acquired trekking shoes. Other adventures abound on the southern surf beaches of Lombok.

Lombok International Airport is located 33 km south-west from Mataram and services daily flights mainly from Jakarta and Bali. This round-shaped island is approximately 80 km in both directions and offers plenty of variety for a great holiday.

Excellent villa with amazing views across Teluk Aan - amazing sea colours. 10 mins walk to Gerupuk village (or 5 mins scooter) for surfing trips which were excellent to a variety of locations in the bay and suitable for range of skills. Short drive to Kuta Lombok (15 mins) for dinner / more tourist activities - roads are empty and good due to the Moto GP circuit being built nearby - big contrast to Bali! Only about 30 mins from the airport. Villa has 4 double bedrooms, beautiful pool and terrace and open plan living area. We ate in the villa 2 nights - staff cook a great barbecue - the local lobster was outstanding definitely request this! Breakfast also very good - cooked whatever requested. Staff super friendly arranged car, boat trips etc and always on hand to help out.

The staff were fantastic! Friendly, welcoming, and they remembered my name the entire stay. Special mention to Amir, who went above and beyond, setting up a private dinner for us by the pool and making our stay extra special. Dwi was also incredibly kind and sweet, making us feel at home. The food was excellent, and we enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay for a couple more nights. The sunsets were breathtaking, and the beach was perfect soft sand, clear water, and incredible weather made for an unforgettable experience.

Interesting place, unbelievable amount of restaurants. Lots of young tourists, the town is a buzz with 2 large venues in particular crowded with 20 - 40 year olds. Some young couples with pre school kids, very few older people. Probably as getting around the need to be able to ride a motorbike. We got a driver to take us to the waterfalls and a working weaving village. We had a guide at the waterfall, which we enjoyed.

Unfortunately my partner became ill so we cancelled a few days activities and I remained in the immediate local area. But I found Senggigi a slower pace but with plenty of options to dine or stop in for a drink and I didn't find myself wanting for more (although there is more being built). This was my second trip to Sengiggi and I will be back again.

Gili Meno is a magical place and very special to us, we had the most amazing wedding here in May 2025 and our shoulders always drop an inch the minute we get off the boat. It truly has a special energy. We did a day trip over to Gili T which was a great way to spend the day, though our group of 6 were all happy to come back to our Gili Meno oasis.

A laid back village well set up for travellers. it is a great halfway point for people travelling to rinjani. slightly cooler than coast which was a bit of a relief. walking tour of the monkey forest, waterfalls and the ricefields worth doing. much cleaner than any other part of Lombok I have been to. i have been back twice.

Selong Belanak Beach is quite diverse.

Selong Belanak Beach is quite diverse. It is not really the place for golden sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. Instead, it’s a great spot for surfing and enjoying the waves. The tides are quite strong, and there are also very cool crabs living in the sand. The water can sometimes be a bit murky and occasionally there is some trash, especially during the rainy season. The sea brings plastic and natural debris to the shore, and it is not always cleaned up very quickly. However, it was not extremely disturbing. Along the beach there are local surf kiosks run by locals, where you can find local food and services. They serve very good local corn and banana pancakes. The area can feel a bit slum-like, but at the same time it is their natural living environment. On both sides of the beach there are also larger hotels with a more Western style, offering very good food for visitors looking for a slightly more upscale experience.

Senaru is a perfect place for those who want to find the nature calmness. The morning breeze releases all the stress. There are also many warungs if you want to find cheap meal. Dont forget to try the coffee, it's so good!

This is my second visit and its a great spot to spend some time snorkeling. Its easy to find a boat for the day that will take you out to the Gillies. Elak Elak Resto over the years has held up as one of the best restaurants locally.

Gili Asahan is a slice of paradise.

Gili Asahan is a slice of paradise. Snorkelling right off the beach in the restored coral fields will allow you to see all kinds of tropical fish not to mention the beautifully-coloured coral. It's only a 10 minute boat ride from the mainland of Lombok. Expect to have a tech detox here - the wifi isn't great. But that's just the ticket for true relaxation.
