My family loved our stay at New Yokote. The staff went out of our way to make our stay as seamless as possible including helping us with our luggage back to Tokyo. We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room which was lovely. The breakfast and dinner were also amazing with lots of traditional Japanese dishes. Thank you for an amazing stay!

It’s really convenient location, close to a lot ski resorts. I went to Nozawa Onsen, Myoko Suginohara and Madarao, around 30-45min from hotel. Also close to a lot of restaurants and convenience stores.

The breakfast and dinner at the hotels are fantastic. Definitely will recommend to include it in your package, especially since it is a bit iffy on the availability of restaurants in the area. (For lunch, you could still try Shibu Onsen or get something from the nearby Lawson. We were only able to find one restaurant that was open at 1 pm and they close at 2 pm so we didn't try to look further) The onsen in the hotel is fantastic. They rotate the male and female daily so you can experience both sides if you are there for at least 2 days. (The one on the right is better in my opinion)

If you want to experience living traditional Japanese, this is the place! Love everything and every touch of this ryokan. From location - super convenient n easy to find Big room - cozy dining corner, peaceful sitting area, spacious! great host service(he offers free ride to snow monkey park), drink green tea matcha & eat welcome japanese pastry in the comfort of the japanese dining table. Lastly my Favourite - love love the onsen from outdoor to private one. Every onsen feels Different because of the set up. (3 onsens in this ryokan)

The staff were amazing and very friendly. They were very patient with our limited Japanese. Highly recommend the dinner (you will probably need to or book). The food was amazing and the variety and quantity blew us away. There are two public onsens on site, each with indoor and outdoor onsens that were beautiful. The location is excellent and Yudanaka is a lovely town, and very close to the snow monkeys. Would definitely come back.

Weekday breakfast and dinner kaiseki were excellent. The buffet meals on peak days (Saturday, Sunday morning) had a variety of options. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful in answering questions about the area. The club rooms were bigger than expected and included a kitchenette, which came in handy when we arrived late on our first night.

During our trip to Japan we stayed in 19 different accommodations, this was by far the most helpful & welcoming staff! The dinner was spectacular & the outdoor onsen was an extra special treat. Amazing shuttle service to the monkey park & to & from the train station, with a friendly & curtious driver. We highly recommend this accommodation.

Awesome location close to the onsens, complementary shuttles to/from the bus station and to the monkey park, the staff were super friendly and easy to book a nearby private onsen if you wish. We had the traditional Japanese breakfast and it was epic.

We were in Yamanouchi in the spring.

We were in Yamanouchi in the spring. The cherry blossoms along the river we gorgeous and contrasted with the snow topped peaks of the mountains. The town was pretty chill, nice little cafes like the sun cafe and a cool beer cafe called the WDAY Cafe and Bat. The temple walk and the visit to the snow monkeys just gorgeous. To get to the snow monkeys is a tough walk up into the mountains- not for the faint hearted but you can drive up or take a bus up. It

I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights)...

I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights) to take advantage of the skiing and the onsen's (alternate between the two!), to relax for longer in the Japanese countryside. (I did not come to Japan to just check off the tourist sites...) The town has narrow streets to walk on, even without gps you cannot get lost as it is more or less parallel to the river, especially the more tourist section with all the onsens.

So pretty and cozy.

So pretty and cozy. We didn't stay long but everyday we spent there was a joy. Everyone was so nice and helpful, there was so much good food and everything feels really personal and local. Make sure you have a plan B for food as the restaurants are small and availability depends on how busy they are - hours vary because of this. Bring cash and plan your meals and you should be good to go!

Not much to do besides onsen, skiing and the monkey park.

Not much to do besides onsen, skiing and the monkey park. Restaurants close based on the movement so opening times on google maps are not accurate. Some of them do not welcome tourists, they are open for locals and "sold out" for tourists. I'm writing this review on the peak of the Takichi government so things can change if you're it after some years. If you intend to ski, just get the skii resort, restaurants are better and closer to the skiing point. If you stay at the Shibu onsen, the buses for the skiing points are not frequent and are really expensive. If you're looking for the onsen, the public ones won't be better than the private hotel ones so book a ryokan with a good onsen. Finally, I do not really get the hype with Jigokudani Monkey Park. There's a lot of manmade structures and objects around so do not expect a "natural reserve" or "monkey sanctuary". Also, it's crowded.
