The hotel has a lovely garden, and the food was really delicious. The beach is also just a 5-minute walk away, which is very convenient. We stayed at Bella Vita for 3 nights. The room was exactly as shown in the Booking photos and daily housekeeping was provided, which we appreciated. Breakfast included fresh fruit, a slice of cake, fresh juice, coffee or tea, and eggs prepared to your preference (scrambled, fried, boiled, etc.). It was a standard breakfast in Sri Lanka - decent, though we did have more substantial breakfasts at other accommodations during our trip. All in all, a nice stay with good cleanliness and friendly service, but with a few aspects that could be improved.

A beautiful luxurious property with gorgeous sunset. Food was amazing and service too. Only an hour from the airport. Beach very quiet but the under current is very strong so you can’t swim in the sea. There is a large swimming pool to relax in though.

This was my second time at this property. Last time, I stayed in a private pool villa. Since I traveled alone this time, I chose a standard room. The room size is quite small but still suitable for a solo traveler. I encountered an issue 15 minutes after check-in, but it was resolved quickly. The hotel is very clean, and the staff are friendly. I particularly liked my room because it faced the beach. As I mentioned, the issue I had was addressed promptly, and the key person responsible was the very professional Guest Relations Executive, Ms. Tharindi. She is welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive. The main reason I am giving a 10/10 rating is because of her outstanding service and quick resolution of my concern. Every morning, she checks in with guests to ensure their comfort, which I truly appreciate. Having worked in the service industry for the past 12 years, I know how important this level of care is. Ms. Tharindi, you are a valuable asset to this property. Once again, thank you for making my stay at Avani so memorable. I would also like to thank the Front Office Manager, Mr. Jayantha, and the Executive Housekeeper, Mr. Eric, who personally met with me and resolved the issue. Additionally, my gratitude goes to the room attendant who kept my room impeccably clean.

Poor staff service during our visit while it was raining Unfortunately, they did not provide any umbrellas, and the staff did not seem concerned about the situation. However, the property is in a fantastic location, and I would still recommend it for a visit. It’s worth noting that the Sri Lankan economy has been affected by political issues, which had a significant impact on the tourism industry. Many employees currently working in this sector are relatively new, which may explain some of the service shortcomings we experienced.

Travelers who plan to visit the southern region can choose Kalutara as a destination for their first day, as it is only about two to three hours from the airport. Clean beaches, delicious food, convenient roads, and well-equipped hotels with hospitable staff are available for visitors’ comfort. Very busy highstreet with lots of juice bars and coffee shops. The Maharaja on Morgala beach is lovely spot for food and drinks. Watch the water sports and sunsets. Walk toward Beruwala for more beach bars, shops and fishing.

The town of Kalutara is very busy and stretched out along a busy road, quite a distance from the hotel. We didn’t visit as we had come to relax at the hotel after a couple of days sightseeing in Colombo and before heading to the much nicer beaches further south.

Aluthgama is a reasonably quiet town,. İt offers a bustling shopping area with plenty of local shops that provide the necessities of life without the over abundance of tourist style outlets. Local transportation as in tuk tuk are plentiful and very cheap. İt is surrounded by beautiful open spaces showcasing the areas natural beauty. İt is however a two hour drive to Colombo airport.

Lovely place to relax. Large beach. Not many restaurants on the beach and not as populated with tourists as other areas we visited, but we loved spending time in Shah Shah's and found a sun bed to relax in with an umbrella. Also recommend Pier 88 to eat out in near by Aluthgama, lovely river views and good quality food. Also recommend Kandoori if you fancy a bit of Indian cuisine. We didn't do many day trips as we had already done some in Mirissa but we did do a boat safari that was pleasant enough. Great location if you want to be relatively near to Colombo and the airport. We mostly relaxed by the pool and had Ayurvedic massages so recommend finding a nice hotel with good facilities. Worth a visit.

The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint. However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good. As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work. Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments.
