"Kegalle is the smartest home base for traveling Sri Lanka without moving hotels every night. From here, Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is just 30 minutes away – you can see dozens of elephants bathing in the river up close, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Kandy with the Temple of the Tooth is only an hour away, and Colombo is about two hours by car. Kegalle itself is quiet, green, and genuinely local – no tourist crowds, just real Sri Lankan life. The botanical gardens in Peradeniya are also an easy drive. If you're staying at RanaHansa Villa, you can do all these day trips and return to a peaceful, spotless homestay with home-cooked food and fast WiFi. This is perfect for long-stay travelers who want to explore the island deeply without repacking every day. Highly recommend Kegalle as your strategic hub for the Cultural Triangle, elephant country, and hill country all at once."

The hotel is truly a hidden gem - we were so lucky to stay there. The atmosphere is wonderful and cozy, with incredibly beautiful nature all around. The calming sounds of nature allow your mind to fully relax. It was exactly what we needed. An essential part of what makes this place even more special is the staff - everyone is warm, kind, open-hearted, and genuinely caring people. The food is absolutely delicious. We will definitely come back here and highly recommend everyone to stay at this hotel. The rooms are clean and tidy, housekeeping is always on time, and there are simply no downsides!

A true gem! Perfect getaway for those who appreciate details. This villa exceeded all expectations. It offers European-standard comfort where every detail is thought through, from the quality toiletries in the room to separate pool towels. The grounds are beautiful: a well-kept garden, a clean pool, and there's even a billiard room. The staff is incredibly pleasant and responsive. I was particularly touched by the hosts' care for local animals — it's very valuable. Tip: To avoid waiting for dinner (everything is cooked fresh), it's better to inform them of your check-in time in advance. And for the perfect poolside rest, all that was missing were just a couple of extra sun loungers. The area is quiet and prosperous, with great shops nearby. We are absolutely delighted and highly recommend this villa!

Excellent place, spacious rooms, with a lot of vegetation. Anushka is very kind, as is his family. He is a very good guide, he knows a lot about his country and its tourist attractions. If you have any questions, I recommend that you ask anything, he will help you. It was an incredible day in their cottage and the typical Sri Lanka breakfast was amazing 🤩🤩 I will back , I’m sure 🫶🏻☺️

Kitulgala is a great stop over on your way to the hill...

Kitulgala is a great stop over on your way to the hill country or coming back and avoids the Colombo Kandy route. While famous for rafting, lately there has been quite a bit of investment going into other outdoor experiences including mountain biking, trekking and other adventure activities. But even if you are not into the adrenaline rush, it's a great place to disconnect and unwind.

The entire pinnawala experience was veryy beautiful . Undoubtedly the best hotel choice . People are soo warm and welcoming ; Shalika greets with a beautiful smile and takes care so well . The other front desk people are also really nice . Andrew took us to the elephant village and that experience is also worth experiencing . Without a doubt would suggest anyone to go for this to experience the best of pinnawala .

At first sight to see some elephants chained up in the water is shocking. When we learned why it made it understandable, so ask questions to get the whole picture. We stayed at Hotel Elephant Park, Andrew and Shalika are incredibly helpful. It really is worth staying a few days, we learned so much about the fauna and local traditions. The breakfast is extensive and caters for all tastes. Watching the bats as evening falls is thrilling, they are huge. The view from our rooms was unbeatable. The local meditation temple is such a spiritual place, and bat island well worth going to see. We were also privileged to see a wedding in the same complex, the decorations and food were stunning.

We used this as a stop off between the airport and Kandy, it was perfect. Despite the park being busy, once inside the hotel it is tranquil and peaceful with the sound of the water in the river and the elephants splashing. The crowds are not around the hotel and so the view from our balcony and the dining area was totally unobstructed .
