The setting is beautiful. It is located next to a river in a ski town. We stayed in one of the cottages. The cottages were cozy. We went to a separate building for the bathroom and sauna. Bathrooms were immaculate. The sauna was a nice touch after a day of skiing.
The staff is very nice. My son lost the cabin key on the slopes. A staff member was able to come quickly to the property( it was nighttime and dark) to give us a spare key. We didn't have to wait in the cold for long.

Very spacious. We got a 3 bed apt as opposed to the 2 bed I booked. My kids had their own room. Apt was clean and close to amenities and nature. We wished we had booked an extra night.

Outside of the skiing season there is always accomodation...
Outside of the skiing season there is always accomodation available and Geilo offers all the facilities and amenities needed for a spring, summer or autumn trip. Most importantly it is very central for visiting the fjords, the mountains, the hardanger vidda, some beautiful farming valleys, multidudinous waterfalls, etc. etc. There is some fabulous walking/hiking in the vicinity. The road infrastructure is excellent (beware road closures in winter) and you can even get there from either Bergen or Oslo by train. You can do the famous Norway in a Nutshell tour from Geilo starting and finishing by train, although this summer because of the current timings of the fjord portion of the tour, it is not possible to complete it in a day and get back to Geilo.

Geilo is stunning!!
Geilo is stunning!! Brilliant ski resort to take our kids for their first ski trip. Pistes were excellent, good selection of greens, blues and reds. Staff were friendly, ski instructors fantastic! Definitely recommended. The train journey in was a bonus!

Geilo is a ski town.
Geilo is a ski town. Skiing in Norway is more affordable than the United States and less crowded. Unlike many ski towns that I have been in, Geilo was pretty dead once the slopes were closed. There is no public transit within the city limits. Taxis are infrequent and expensive. If you stay for a few days, a car is recommended. We took the bus from Oslo to Geilo and the train from Geilo to Bergen.
It is spectacularly beautiful and the young people working at the ski resorts were very cool. There is a nice international vibe.
