We stayed two nights, the first night some machinery was left operating and was disturbing to my sleep. Breakfast was continental, nothing special. Fresh fruit and yoghurt would have been appreciated.

A wonderful stay – again! This was my second visit to the cottage, and it was just as fantastic as the first time. Everything about the place feels cosy and warm, making it a perfect retreat. The location is spot-on – peaceful yet convenient – and the hosts are truly welcoming, going above and beyond to make sure everything is just right. One of the real highlights is the breakfast – a massive bonus that sets this place apart. It’s clear a lot of care and thought goes into every detail, and it shows. I’ll definitely be back again. Highly recommended!

Very cozy little guest house complete with a bedroom and living area. Elaine, our host is a good communicator. She needed to leave so we never met her, but she kept us informed and we were able to successfully follow her instructions and get in. The laundry was such a wonderful gift mid-trip. we used the washer to wash our clothes then hung them on the line to dry. By dark they were ready to bring in and repack. The refrigerator was packed with everything we needed to make breakfast including some thoughtful chocolates. The room was super quiet. We are walking the central otago rail trail and her home is strategically placed just at the beginning of the trail.

The big thing that stood out for me was I asked for a evening check in as I had a delayed arrival in Queenstown then had to drive over and the owners waited until I arrived at reception. A really nice welcome, they also helped with my NZ phone to help me remember the number and set up my room to be warm on my arrival. Accomodation was spacious, warm and comfortable for my mini stay in the area. Grocery store almost right next door for food supplies as well!

This is a very attractive, well maintained property. The room was pleasant, the bathroom was strikingly modern and clean, and the expansive common lounging space was beautifully appointed and welcoming. And comfortable. The view from the lounge is wonderful, while the bedrooms are more private.

Nice friendly country town with lovely views

Nice friendly country town with lovely views Good restaurants although some test the heights with their pricing , and could make their servings a little larger. Staff very friendly though. Had brunch at a restaurant in the industrial area as we were leaving. Joined a group , Great food, friendly staff. I think it was call the Industrial Kitchen or similar.

Everything from torches, umbrellas, to toiletries (plenty of TP lol). Warm and Cosy. What I would perhaps suggest is a curtain for the ranch sliders rather than a roller blind simply for ease of entry. Also a good Tupper pad would soften the mattress as it was a bit hard and would remedy that for those who have troubled backs. Otherwise all was well stocked and felt we were well looked after.

We loved our time in this charming small town in central Otago. It was the perfect place to explore the area. We visited nearby Ophir, St Bathans, Cambrians and Danseys Pass (to have dinner at the Danseys Pass Hotel). We had intended to go for lunch but this is only offered on the weekends. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Royal Hotel Naseby, I had salmon and hubby had steak.

Good location for cycling on the Otago Rail Trail. Also close to Naseby where we went cycling in the forest and swam in the pond. Also walked to Buster Hut, a strenuous walk where we saw old gold diggings.

Middlemarch is a small town at one end of the Otago Rail...

Middlemarch is a small town at one end of the Otago Rail Trail, within easy driving reach of Dunedin. The Kissing Gate Cafe provided a warm and welcoming place to have a good coffee and tasty treats on a fairly cold winter's day. We saw the rolling stock for what was formerly the Taieri Gorge Railway (later Dunedin Railways) parked up at Middlemarch Station, having effectively been mothballed, we were told, because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism. We hope the line, running as it does through some impressive scenery, will be opened for business once again at some point.

Within just 1/2 an hour there is so much to see. St Bathans Blue lake and Naseby both historic mining towns. Captured in time yet up to the minute in food choices. Oterahua is worth a visit. Further afield Dansy's Pass, Alexander, Ranfurly. Will come back when we buy our bikes for the rail trail

Lovely quiet town, nice to walk down to "Hayes Engineering Works" and cafe about a 20min walk down the rail trail as well a further 5-10mins walk or quick drive heading towards Omakau too is the famous Bonspiel curling lake. The Gilhirst store has food shopping needs and the Tavern across the road has a great range of food (Meals or Takeaways)

Alexandra is a beautiful town. We could've stayed longer but due to time constraint we were only to stay overnight. Warm weather at the time. The view must have been more spectacular when autumn season is on its peak where the colourful fall leaves have come out. Looking forward to our next visit.

It’s a typical small rural settlement, and is easy enough to get around. Its proximity to Alexandra really allows you to enjoy a quiet slow pace of life without the hustle and bustle of a regional centre. Being from the north island it really gives the Martinborough vibes.
