We loved our stay here. Sadly, the weather turned and we couldn’t do the Tongariro Crossing hike as we’d planned. But the lovely woman at check-in gave us several other shorter options that we could fit in before the storm hit. We spent an entire day curled up on the comfy sofas in the lounge. The staff started the wood stove (yes, this was in summer! :), and we felt grateful to have such a lovely place to ride the storm out. The staff was all very helpful and we appreciated their service with a smile, especially so close to Christmas. If we’re lucky enuf to come back, we’d love to stay again.

It was a bit out of the way, so lovely and quiet. The owners live upstairs and came out to introduce themselves and welcome us. The place is actually huge, and had a lovely homey feeling. Very clean with lots of towels and warm bedding. Big TV with streaming, and a full kitchen, and massive bathroom with washer available. All the comforts of home, and just up the road from the Thermal Pools which are awesome.

Standing in the corridor in front of the room, you can see both Mount Ruapenu and Mount Ngauruhoe at the same time. The view is incredible. In unit #10, you can see the snow-capped mountains while lying in bed. Thought the unit near street, but Mary prepared earplugs in the room. Once closed door and windows at night, the noise is ok. I’m actually a light sleeper, but that night I slept very well, I woke up by alarm in the morning! Mary who runs this motel is so nice and so kind, she is very considerate of customers’ needs. She helped me a lot for checkin and check out time. I’m so thankful!!! The unit is very big and super clean. There are no odors smell in the kitchen or around the sink. The towels and bed sheets are very clean, the bed is comfortable. Everything let you feel clean and pleasant.

We were there for ski trip. I loved Sandy's service by giving us all the info about the mountain and how to be prepared with passes and mapping it out for us to make sure we get the best experience which I appreciated soo much! The place itself was soo clean and felt like home. Beautiful lounge area and clean kitchen and nice open outdoor area to enjoy food with the best view in the area! Highly recommend and I'll definitely be staying here on my next trip :)

Have to make sure that the weather is good before you decide to go. Book the accomodate that is with free cancellation, as if the weather is bad, then there is nothing much you can do there. In summer, hiking the tongariro, in winter, go ski.

The empty Chateau is a shame but we hope that will be sorted soon. The neglected buildings in the village on both sides of Bruce Road is not a good look. Hopefully they will be restored and have tenants soon. We understand Covid and the uncertainly around the sale of the ski field had a big influence but we hope that it would be fixed soon

Roomy, relaxing, peaceful, clean - had most of what we needed. A few basic things missing that would have been appreciated - salt, soap, dishcloth, lock on bathroom door, working oven/grill. But over-all we enjoyed the stay and it met our needs for a 2 night stay

We had a wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay! The hotel was very clean, warm, and comfortable. The owner told us he designed and built the hotel himself, and he and his partner run it with great care. They were incredibly kind and gave us many helpful travel tips. One morning, our car windows were frozen, and she kindly brought us a bucket of water to help clear the ice. We really appreciated her thoughtfulness. Their warm hospitality made us feel at home. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Magical place, great for outdoor activity, relaxation or just family weekend away. The town offers everything you need - good variety of accommodation and eating out options. There is a number of nice picturesque hikes on the town outskirts or you can drive for just half an how towards Turoa for real mountain adventures.

The management is chaotic. I lost my ski poles. It took me an hour to find them among three girls. I found that all their equipment was someone else's. I was shocked. There were too many novices. My friend's child was hit three times in one day. It was really dangerous.

We stayed here for access to Tongariro National Park.

We stayed here for access to Tongariro National Park. It’s only a few minutes drive to the park. Best to shop for food in a larger town. The gas station convenience store in Waimarino has a pretty good selection of packaged food and other supplies. There’s also a Liquorland behind the gas station. We didn’t eat at the restaurants (2) in Waimarino.
