"A great Douro site, especially the cruise, I recommend booking tickets in advance. Spending the night is highly recommended to absorb the atmosphere, and especially to take the cruise, one of the highlights of this town. (www.europarques.com - [email protected])"

We were traveling from USA and Sweden, and struggling with our very few words of Portuguese that we knew. The staff was really great to us and helped us along. Dinner service was lovely. An English speaking staff member helped us with the menu and recommended some fantastic meals and a local wine. When we checked in, the man helping us heard we were going hiking and recommended a lot of wonderful hikes for us. It was a really great experience and exceeded our expectations- all thanks to the staff.

Beautiful, impeccably maintained property with stunning views and the sweetest horses, dogs and goats on site. Large swimming pool and outdoor space with lots to do for kids, toddlers and adults. The townhouse exceeded our expectations, and was really thoughtfully decorated with cool old artifacts. They should be busier for how beautiful it is. We will definitely return if we're ever back in the North.

Excellent! The hosts are lovely and they put out an impressive breakfast. The property is a vineyard and it is beautiful seeing the almond trees and grape vines. The hosts made us feel at home and offered us port when we arrived. The location is great for Foz Côa Parque Arqueológico, also they helped coordinate with our guide Ludovic for Foz Côa, I only wish we had stayed longer.

Had some communication difficulties with language, but we got there. Nevertheless, they tried very hard to be very helpful. A couple of small issues with room - with key but solved, desk chair was unstable. Nevertheless, quite a pleasant stay, and facilities good for a small hotel. Need to be aware that accommodation is about 15km from town of Miranda do Douro. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area.

This is a wonderful town from which to explore the area. We visited in early March, just before the Almond Blossom festival. Unfortunately we had to leave right before the festival started, but we saw the preparations and it looks like a fun event. The Coa Archeology Museum and tours to the rock art sites are a must-see. Especially the night tour. It’s worth it!! This area is also a great base for exploring the local castles and wine growing areas. Gorgeous scenery, friendly people and no crowds!!

Great central location for exploring Tras os Montes region...

Great central location for exploring Tras os Montes region but you need a car to get around easily. Mostly Spanish tourists here. Foreigners( met a German & Scots couple who bought homes) are buying property in the area. There's a village near by (Etnor)with donkeys -adults can enjoy too. You can also spend time with Trappists nuns( following their routine/traditions of meditation/prayer and work at the Monastery but let them know ahead of time. Lots of walking trails to explore flora and fauna along the Douro river. there's boat tours for along the river between spain & Portugal. Lots of festivals. Bombeiro's cafe is a great hangout with free wifi. There also a public pool near by which is a great hang out for kids who speak Fench and English and no Portuguese. Excellent dinning ask locals where to eat- generous portions and inexpensive. All meat and veggies from area are organic and tasty especially the grilled meat & sausages. I especially liked the soups. If you come in mid September you can get dinners in exchange for helping in the vineyards with harvesting grapes.

Teresa and Miguel are originally from Lisbon, but this house has been in their family for a long time. They moved to the countryside for quality of life reasons - including for their young daughter, and their love for the place clearly shows. They are both excellent English speakers.

The COA Valley Museum is fabulous and many travellers seem unaware of it. Prehistoric rocks carvings (not in caves, in the open). Field trip by jeep and walking to view them in situ, and wonderful museum are a must for me. A highlight in both my trips to Portugal. I wouldn't miss it.

Mogaduro is a charming town a well worth a stopover if one is travelling in the region. There are plenty of bars and cafes to relax in and historical place to wonder around. Mogaduro is clean and tidy and clearly well maintained. Eating and drinking out is inexpensive and the local food is generally delicious.

Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. And drink the local wine, eat the local cheeses, try the local sausages and enjoy the friendly people. You'll not regret it.
